Id like to use a 9400 or maybe even a 9500 pci video card on my powermac g4 fw800. Right now its got an ati 9000 agp video card, but i already ordered a flashed 7800 for it.
I know a few of the newer macs use 9400 video cards, so is it possible to add a pci 9400 to my powermac for CUDA support?
Id want to use my AGP video card for my display and just use the 9400 or 9500 for CUDA.

wouldn't that be nice........

NOT GONNA HAPPEN

Best you can hope for is an Nvidia 6200 PCI.....does Core Image but don't know about Cuda.

8 series and above support CUDA :(
Do the Intel and PPC macs use different roms for the video cards, or what? Cant do a rom dump on one of the Intel macs with the 9400 and flash that onto a pci 9400?

You might be able to hack it but unless your are on intimate terms with hardware, software and IO... don't bother.

So from what I know im going to say possible but bordering on impossible.
The current cards for mac are EFI ROM, and not PCI/AGP connections. So you have wrong firmware and wrong connection.

Sorry, but 7800 if that works is the best your going to get performance wise.

If you want CUDA, Intel Mac time.

The EFI cards support a different endian than the PPC cards, so all the data sent from the G4 to card would be backwards.

You can hack another PC card for Intel Macs, for PPC you'd need to write a driver and the ROM.

Grab a ATI 9800 Pro and flash it. They can be had for about $25. That's what lives in my 1x1.25GHz G4 MDD.

I have a MDD dual 1.25, running 10.5.7, upgraded a couple of years ago with a ATI 9600 (from OWC, I think a pull from the G5 of the time). Now I am having random hangs when triggering exposť or other quartz-type effects, so I am assuming the 9600 is going bad. It's been a bit better since I installed the 3.5.2 CHUD tools and turned on Nap mode, but it still hangs at least a few times a week. Before the CHUD it would show random blocks of white or black on the screen.

I REALLY want a new Mac Pro, but it ain't happening anytime soon. So a $30 fix sounds pretty good.

So, how does one flash a PC 9800? Where do you get the ROM image? Where are the sub-$25 versions (128M or 256M?)

I can handle the VNC bit.

Ahhh, the Intels use a different system :D
Well I guess im stuck with my 7800 :p

For the guy wanting info on flashing the 9800 series cards -

The site is oddly down right now , but a google search will yield you the cached version.
