so here is the story! i take my macbookpro 17" unibody into the apple store in Tyson corner virginia.
i tell them that my top case part of the laptop is bowed and needs to be replaced because that's how it came out of the box. they tried to give me some BS saying i bowed it by pushing the case open to far. well yes that could of happened but, it would have had to be bowed in the other direction. once i pointed that out, the genius shut his mouth and ran to get a manager. the manager apologized for what happened and rectified by "oking" the replacement part.
so i get a call Thursday night around 10:30 pm telling me "hey your laptop is ready to be picked up but you cant pick it up till Saturday cus the iphone 3gs is debuting friday thanks bye" after listening to that voice mail, im like wtf... i have to wait because your selling some stupid product? so today i go to pick up my laptop and i boot it up. the screen doesnt turn on. im like WTF? this is supposed to be fixed and the screen does not turn on?
so i make a comment to some guy next to me while im at the front desk and say "geez they said they fixed it not made it worse" then all of the sudden some *butt hole* genius comes out of nowhere grabs my laptop tells me in an angry voice "we didn't make it worse and said ill be right back". WTF is this rude bull ****? then i see the manager that okayed the repair and told her what happend she said sorry let me go check were your laptop is. so she goes and checks on it comes back with the guy and i get my laptop. screen is working now and i check for dead pixels none. he said everything is fine and working 100% i say okay and leave. i get home and im like GOD DAMNIT I KNEW I SHOULD OF CHECKED THAT!!! it said no airport card installed. i call the apple store. they tell me todo some bs key strokes and whatnot and still came up. then they check the old housing for the monitor and there was my airport card.
now i have to drive back to apple on Monday to get it reinstalled. Apple is the worst company to deal with i mean wtf? you call me say its ready tell me to wait an extra day cus your trying to sell some product. i come in check it out does not work. needs to be quick fixed then i take it home and find out my damn network card is not installed and has been left in my old case. F u apple last mac i buy from your retarded asses.

I agree, that is some BS, I would hate for that to happen. Id call apple customer service and just tell them what happened. Be nice, but stern about it, who knows, they might send you something, or give you a gift card or some crap haha. I would do it, just to see if I could get a little something out of a bad situation.

I wouldn't say he over reacted at all. The way the genius treated him was very unprofessional and very rude. I would be pissed if I was treated like that too after making such a big purchase from a company.

It's a good place to start.

of course his view of the situation isnt biased at all:rolleyes:
honestly, id wager that the apple store was professional with him all the way. the reason i say that is no matter the company, i have never been treated rudely by customer service as thats their job
i have seen many irate customers....
always have to consider the source of the info, and in this case, its an individua who is upset and clearly not accommodating to any setbacks

It is unfortunate how you were treated and the service you "received". If you can even call that service. But I have been very fortunate, and have nothing but good things to say about apple technicians and customer service. In all honesty, there's going to be problems like this wherever you go. Companies that mass produce products are always going to have some things go wrong with production, and its to be expected. It is unfortunate, and as customers we would all like to think that nothing should ever go wrong, but truth is, there only human too, and they make mistakes. There's no excuse for how they treated you at the store, but people make mistakes. Still, I would call apple, and just tell them what's up, they may do something to try to correct it a bit.

There is no way to tell if they were professional with him or not I guess, But i worked at best buy for almost a year, and you make a very valid point about irate customers. They seem to get mad over the slightest of things, and think that us employee's are some sort of gods that can quickly fix everything. My view of customer service reps and technicians greatly changed after my employment at best buy. I now understand more than ever that patience and respect is the key.

Wow, that blows for that guy for sure. I would hate for that to happen to me. Although he should have known that a mac mini isn't a user serviceable computer. He kind of asked for it, and as such, has no right to be complaining when its his own stupidity that has brought that on.

I agree with you, and in your situation I would be pissed too. And for good reason, It is there job to complete and CORRECTLY do the repair. Although, and I know when your pissed, it is hard to realize this, people do make mistakes. But like I sad 3 times now, call apple customer service and let them know what happened. They should and possibly will make it right. Also, just because this happened at one apple store, does not mean every other one is just as bad, or that apple as a company is bad.

lol, I knew someone would pick up on that. Were the old mini's, the one mentioned in the link, user serviceable or not? I'm not sure lol. But what about the new ones? Do they, like the new macbooks, include instruction on how to change the ram or HDD?

Do they, like the new macbooks, include instruction on how to change the ram or HDD?The G4 minis were worlds easier to work with. The RAM slot and hard drive were much easier accessible. Especially the RAM.
The Intel ones pop open just fine with a putty knife but you have to be wary of the fan cable, CD audio cable, and the wireless ones as well. Not to mention taking the top half off to access the RAM.
What aggravates me even more is that the G4 minis yellow very quickly. I haven't seen an Intel one do that yet.

Apple retail stores are ridiculous. They are there to sell iPhones and iPod Touch products. Higher end computer sales support is abysmal in many locations. Its better to read MacRumors Forums and other Apple Forums for information. When you've decided to purchase, go to Amazon.com, B&H Photo, J&R and MacMall or others. There is no reason to bother with a retail store as they can't really answer your questions.

On another matter, I bet you're not telling us the whole story.

Sure the service wasn't great - but were you a royal right git to the apple staff per chance?

To be fair to the OP, I have found the geniuses to be very frustrating, in my first experience with them, I had a guy claim that I'd stuck a screw driver in my CD drive (I actually had to bend the casing where it had warped above the CD drive, any pre unibody MBPs have this issue, it's so easily bendable) and told the lady dealing with me to mark down user damage, so I'm guessing my warranty has been invalidated by him making up an elaborate story...
LOL, sorry for the rant.

That's what I'm sayin. This person just needs to grow up and deal with it. Ya stuff happens, so what?! You attracted it to yourself by overreacting to the genius in the first place. It all went downhill from there.

Well, the OP may be a kid, but so are the Mac Geniuses. I really don't see a need for the Apple stores. Shut them down and go mail order/internet only and move in-store iPhone sales to AT&T outlets. Apple could save themselves a fortune and reduce prices.
When I called one Apple store in a mall, one Genius told me he was unaware of the SATA-II 1.5 GB/s limitation on the new 13.3 & 15.4" MacBook Pros. I suggested he check older MacBooks and verify it. He was completely uninterested in investigating the matter. Thank God for forums like this, or we'd be screwed.

I hate to say it but this once again proves that it is minor issue brought up by a vocal minority on the internet. If it were a major issue I'm sure he would have had many customers asking him about it.
