hey can alanis morisette's new album be number one! I admit when you guys posted before and said her music was turning bad, I had liked "everything" and the new single "excuses" and heard some of the other tracks, I decided to buy it because I also liked her last album, not the one w/ DVD. I am actually really disappointed in the album. I have played it a few times and lyrically it doesn't do much for me. I am surprised though, that it is #1 because her single for "everything" hardly sold anything on iTunes. Anyway please tell me I am not alone!

Hey, your not alone.
Personally I think Alanis Morissette pretty much sucks anyway. Jagged Little Pill was OKAY, I did listen to it a lot when i was younger, guess it was a phase.

It doesn't disapoint me, I'd expect it to suck.

You should know by now that all music from Canada is dodgy. Bryan Adams, Celine Dion, Shania Twain, Nickelback, Big Wreck, Sarah MacLaughlin: dodgy, dodgy, dodgy, dodgy, dodgy, and dodgy. Only exception is Broken Social Scene.

I'll add Leonard Cohen, Live and Rush to the list of great Canadians, not to mention Neil Young and Joni Mitchell, plus Max Webster (Kim Mitchell)....
but then I'm old... ;)

I honestly didn't know neil young was Canadian. You learn something new everyday, no wonder he had such a sinister view of alabama! :p

Well, I don't like any of the artists listed above except Buck 65, but as a Canadian, I have a hard time defending Bryan Adams and Celine Dion here in Oz. Everyone here loved the South Park movie. It redefined the Canadian image everywhere. :p
I also had a hard time one day when a friend and I were flipping through a celeb magazine. They had two pages dedicated to the worst dressed stars at a party of some sort, and half the people on the page were Canadian. Jim Carrey, Pamela Anderson, and 3 others. I'm sure it was just a coincidence, but dayam....everyone just shook their head and said, "Good ol' Canadia!" :)

are you passionate was pretty crappy, but greendale is already a classic, most people who are "sort-of" fans HATE it, while ppl who are huge fans of neil love it alot, I actually enjoy it, a few of the acoustic tunes i don't really enjoy but there's some pretty good tunes on the album too. heh I guess it's "old style canadian rock" taste thats making me like it, i hate how its all one theme but it's all a story.
my fave guitarist randy bachman released a new album too, just like neil he's starting to do some experimenting, he released a jazz album, it might be jazz enthusiast style, but I'm not keen on jazz, I love the jazz work he did with the guess who and BTO but it's just too je ne sais pas.
I haven't heard any of bryan adams newer stuff, but everyone has their different tastes, even musicians have different tastes over the years, thats why many artists change styles over the years.
My fave "current" bands from up here in canada all broke up due to their music not being the "nickelback" rock style of today, the band (big sugar) had a bluesy/reggae/classic rock feel to it, and they became MORE popular after they broke up than they ever were in the last 10 years, it doesnt take long to get someone addicted to their music, their music is too freaking addicting, it's about time for a huge revival of the 70s style rock, but that'll never happen

though we could say most american pop sucks now, at least we have some of the european groups, I'm starting to really like a few that have come into the us seen, anyway normal pop I dispise, though I like some like dunkin sheik etc. I even think a lot of the rap and R&B are terrible. I mean look at the new Faith Evans Cd and one from Janet, I can't even listen to the previews in iTunes, the whole preview! I actually used to like John Mayer but after I saw him on the Shapell (sp) Show I can't even listen to one of his songs

I haven't heard her new album, but in the past she has always come off to me as an ugly, mainstream Ani DiFranco...whose music I don't like as much as the latter.

All this talk of Canadians, and no mention of Avril Lavigne!
I was disappointed in Alanis' new album too.

Shatner's Canadian and I wouldn't trade his Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds for anything!
Aren't Men Without Hats also from up there? "Pop Goes the World," the unknown five-year-later follow-up to Safety Dance was a good little song.
Anne Murray. no one mentioned her, either. Never cared for Alanis, although she is God.
