2G- can you JB 3.0 without unlocking?

My coworker has a jailbroken AT&T 2G with 2.2.1 and wants to upgrade to 3.0 and jailbreak. Unfortunately, I'm his "tech support" and I'm not familat with 2G. The tutorial at iclarified is for unlocking and jailbreaking. Can he just uncheck the unlock option?

Well I checked Unlock only and not Cydia...i'm sure the opposite works as well...

Yup, with redsn0w you have the option to unlock, or jailbreak, or both.

Ok thanks. I assumed that was the case, but the tutorial just said to select both.
