Hello. I happily had my original 2g iphone unlocked and working on tmobile. Because I'm an idiot, I decided to update to 3.0. I got this done, the phone works, is unlocked on tmobile (i used pwnage), i can make calls, use my apps, etc.

The problem is my data plan is no longer recognized by the phone. I can't use edge anymore. -_- It keeps giving an error message any time I am out of wifi range. My plan with tmobile hasn't changed, just the phone OS.

Also, my battery life is down to like 4 hours. This thing used to last me a couple of days. I checked my settings, I don't see anything that should kill it like that.

Any advice, please? The phone is nearly worthless to me without edge working... and the battery life, wow, can I make it to the grocery store and back without it dying? >.<

Sounds like it could be your APN settings!

Ahh, a fast and easy fix! Thank you SO much. What a relief. :)

Any thoughts on the battery life? Four(ish) hours is pretty painful. It was totally fine before the update.

Are you doing the same things over the four hours? I haven't noticed a significant decline in battery life, although there has been an uptick in my playing with the phone, which in turn makes the battery run down faster. Especially since I got a new Gameloft game... which of course burns the battery crazy fast.

Although a few things to check also -- I noted that besides the APN settings, my mail fetch settings also got scrambled up in the upgrade. The major culprits for battery life (besides having the EDGE, WiFi, and BT radios on) are... screen brightness, mail fetch/push settings, and app store push settings.

I really have been using it about the same. The one app that kills battery fastest for me, skype, I haven't touched since the update.

I've just been texting, a phone call here and there, a lot of email use, random camera use, and then the odd using whatever app. But it's right in line with the amount I used it before the update.

Where do you find the app store push settings? I'm not seeing these.

Thanks for the reply!

They show up in settings only if there is a push-capable app installed, so if you don't have them, you don't have a push app and you can knock that off the list of possible causes. :o

Hmm, I found this thread (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=9660352&tstart=0), and can see I'm not alone. I failed to mention that my phone has also been very hot to the touch. Guess it's time to go back to hourly email fetching...
