How to download free apps?

I just got a new ipod touch today. I registered with Apple and got an Apple id (my email).

I wanted to download a free game on the App Store thing, so I typed in my Apple ID and password, but it said exactly "authorization failed. Please connect to iTunes."

What is wrong????

Nothing, the iPod just needs to sync to iTunes (that also has the Apple ID authorized in it) before you can make a purchase, free or not.
