Hi,
I just got my camera and a new Macbook Pro and intend to shoot some 3 min segments for posting to Youtube and using iMovie.
On the camera settings I have a choice of 30p HDV or SD widescreen.

To start, I will probably shoot SD and post to Youtube on 16:9 SD.

My question is can, or should, I shoot on HDV 30p and using a firewire, download and edit on SD, thereby saving the footage in HD for possibly other uses down the road on HD?
Or, just shoot on SD?
Thank you,
Stuart

If you shoot in HD, then you can downsample to SD if you SD. If you shoot in SD, then that is the best that your video can ever be. If you need HD, then you will have to reshoot.

Those are your choices.

HD looks great on Youtube, so I'd just keep it HD. It's not like HDV takes up more disk space, and your processor can handle it.

Shoot, capture, and edit 30p, then export to 720p for Youtube.

"Shoot, capture, and edit 30p, then export to 720p for Youtube."

OK, thank you I will try that!:)
