MBA and MBP?

Sooooo there was some difficulties with my order for my MBA and so I bought an MBP 2.53 refurb.

can anyone tell me why I would have both? :) anyone have both an MBA and MBP?

I had a MBA and MBP.. then MBA and MP.. and now just MBA.

I personally am horrible at keeping track of all my files, so I either just keep them all on the laptop or on the desktop or on the mbp.

Normally the need for 2 systems is one is more powerful then the other.

Yeah I suppose the MBP is more powerful but I also have a PC

so I would have the PC, MBP and MBA

trying to see any anectdotal reasons on why i can justify buying an mba still :D

Well, in that case, I'd just have the MBP or MBA, not both. If you want portability, MBA, if you want performance, MBP.

The Air I just purchased is so I'll have an effective "minimalist" platform for when I'm traveling. I've actually been surprised at how effective the Air is for all around computing. And it's form factor is enormously seductive.

Have a PC, too. Never use it.

really it just depends on you. would you take places? doesn't have to be work. could just take it out on the porch, or yard, or deck. or the couch.

mmmmmmmmm if I did decide to do it, itd be 1738 with shipping for the 2.13 new or 1550 with taxes for 1.86 refurb one.

IMO if you are looking to get MBP and MBA you should consider the revB with either HDD or SSD. The HDD one is not that slow to be a second machine. The only times I find the HDD to be limiting is startup. I just keep my MBA in sleep anyway. I am a college student and I have a PC desktop, a 15" MBP and a MBA. I use the PC for play, the MBP is for hw (mostly coding etc) and the MBA I carry around.

Another option is a Hackintosh netbook. I had a MSI Wind that was quite good but I was itching to get the Air. I am a big fan of Multitouch. If I wasnt I probably would have kept the Wind.

Uni MBP and 2.13 MBA here. The air is for my portable needs and the MBP is my desktop replacement. The MBA is powerful enough for 99% of what I need to do but I love the power of my Pro for video.

very well said, that's about how I use my set up as well.

MBP and MBA is the BEST set up, I've had every combo going and that's what I've decided on, the 24" ACD is a nice addition to that combo as well!

(I have a thinkpad T500 hooked up to a Panasonic 37" LED TV as well for movie downloads, entertainment etc)

I've got a MBA and a MB Pro 17. The MBA is for size and the MBP is for every day use. I've got a HP with a 18" screen/BR as a desktop replacement, a Dell 17" for normal work, a Dell 15" as a backup, and a Asus 10" as a netbook.

And then I've got another 11 desktops (ranging from a FX60 to a i7) scattered throughout the house for when I'm at home with Dell Ultrasharp 24" or 27" monitors on all of them. According to my accountant, I spend about $25K on computers every year. :eek: I have a sickness. :(

I'm seriously considering buying a MacBook Air for my postgrad course in September. I just can't bring myself to make the purchase...I'm not sure why,

Is it the high price? Not really.
Is it the moderate specs? Not sure.

I already own a MacPro and it's my baby, I adore this machine. I guess I'm worried a MacBook Air will be overkill, it's really easy to get swept away by the apple experience, constantly looking for new products to indulge.

I'm just worried my MacPro will end up gathering dust in the corner, only booted up for the occasional video-work.

I guess that's what's holding me back...

To the OP - If you have a need for both machines, why not indulge? I think that's what I'm going to do.

No, you need it. <smile>

No question if I could have only one computer, it would be the MBP. The extra processing power, bigger local disk drive, extra ports, and greater screen real estate all make for a better, more versatile, computing platform.

The Air, though, notwithstanding its "minimalist" tag makes for a surprisingly good all around computer. And its form factor makes it an incredibly comfortable computer to use. Far from using it only for traveling, I find when I'm sitting on the couch reading emails or surfing the net, I far prefer the Air over the MBP. the Air is a true laptop. The MBP really needs a pillow or similar to remain comfortable over many hours of use.

To add to the sweetness of the setup I have an ACD as well.

The 15 inch MBP is my desktop replacement but I can still take it somewhere if I really want/need to, and it is connected to the ACD right now (though I'm typing from the Bluetooth wireless keyboard I bought this weekend:D)

The Air is my work laptop that I bring with me back and forth. I am a teacher and I teach at two schools, so I needed portability, and I didn't want to subject my beautiful pro to work files nor chalk dust getting inside it. I wanted the pro to remain home pristine, as my master machine.

I bought the Air and absolutely love it. I use both computers every single day; the Air all day at work, and the MBP/ACD at home at night, like right now.

If you get both, you will NOT regret it. Trust me.

I have one of each too. The Air is a 90% computer. I use the MBP for handbraking and some graphics things that I only do about two-three weeks a year. I mostly keep the MBP around for a backup if my Air goes down. Time Machine is my friend.
