Yeah, the Prez announced it during his speech (actually, it wasn't a speech, but a 40 minute news update).

Bush is so proud: he has promised to build a big new maximum security prison to house Iraqis, then he will tear down Abu Ghraib (which Bush pronounced three different ways during the speech -- quite hilarious).

Finally, America will bring to Iraq our one true contribution to architecture: the maximum security prison. Kinda makes you proud to be an American, don't it?

What a great idea. Let's tear down one set of buildings and then build a new set of buildings to do the same job.

I understand that the symbolism is important, but it's also wasteful and expensive.

It's also washing our hands of our own crimes. "Let's tear this sucker down so that Iraqis never build a 'Museum of American War Crimes' here."

The Brits suggested this right at the start, but the US knew better,

I think a large waterpark or disneyland should be built in its' place...hearts and minds remember? Cotton-candy, rollercoasters, log rides...

It was an attempt at levity...perhaps ill-advised...that is all.

The Hanging Gardens?:p
(sorry about that :o )

But, seriously, they should create a place of Peace, Reflection and Reconciliation: definitely a garden, with pools and benches and a memorial to all victims of tyranny. There should be a competition started now for designs, open to Iraqis only.
