working with rules in mail.app

i'm trying to use the rules part of mail.app, basically i want to color code a few people who i get mail from often, it seems to be working for when i get mail from them, however all of the mail i have stored from them seems to not be affect. is there anyway to put the background color to all messages sent from a specific address?

obviously, but it doesn't update your old email.

i did find a way however to update your old email so your rules can apply, for anyone else who wants to know, select all the mail, click on message in the toolbar and apply rules. i never caught on to that.

i tried it and ended up not liking that anyway, oh well
