Even if there was, it wouldn't mean anything. That would be like buying a TV with an indicator that it could display a picture, but not turning it on. Just borrow one from a friend with GSM.

I installed ultrasn0w and it seems to work fine. However I don't have a different GSM sim card to install. I installed my At&t one and it works fine of course. However after I took my at&t sim out the carrier setting in settings>general>about still says At&t. Did I mess up the unlock? Or is it still unlocked? Thanks.

If you want to test your unlock, you could always buy a prepaid SIM from a T-Mobile store for ten bucks or so. Comes with a few minutes, even.

that was the first thing i tried, i just keep getting 'no service' where the carrier logo should be. i know ultrasn0w worked because like i said a virgin sim chip worked in it.

So, im thinking that i just dont get the orange network in my house, as ive tried a t-mobile sim and that works too, the only thing is, is my mum is on orange and she gets signal, or at least i assume she does, but im going out later so i'll try it then to see if i receive a signal.

Don't you have any friends with a cell phone. Drop their sim card in to test it.

You can always stop by a tmobile store and tell them you want to test out if your unlocked iphone works on their network and then you'll come back to open up an account with them or something.
It will take less than a minute or find someone with a tmobile phone.

just a quick update on my problem with orange, i went into town and took a trip to the orange shop while i was there, apparently Orange UK don't preactivate their sims unlike every other UK network, so you have to register the sim with orange before it will work, Tested it with a friends already activated sim and it works a treat, so thats uk unlock all good, with 3G working on them all as far as i can tell :cool:

Did you shut off 3G in the settings?
Try remove and reinstall ultrasnow?
Restart the iphone after installing ultrasnow and then put the tmobile sim in.

Ultrasn0w for iPhone 3G is ready!

1. Ensure you have upgraded to iPhone OS 3.0
2. Jailbreak your iPhone 3G using redsn0w or PwnageTool (this will also install Cydia/Icy)
3. Run Cydia or Icy
4. Please add the repo repo666.ultrasn0w.com to Cydia or Icy. That last “o” is actually the number zero “0”! If you use the letter “o” you’ll get an error.
5. Search for ‘ultrasn0w’ in cydia or icy and install ultrasn0w
6. Reboot your iPhone 3G
7. T-Mobile USA users should disable 3G before using ultrasn0w
8. Enjoy



Goto Cydia or Icy, add a a source of repo666.ultrasnow.com. Once you add it should open itand show Ultrasn0w, if not go search for it

But, some folks will all iTunes apps (not JB) are reporting icon problems as well.
