View Full Version : Dim iPod screen?

Hi Everyone,

I just bought a 2nd hand 3rd generation iPod that is a few months old.

I immediately noticed that the screen is pretty dim - I would think the dark areas should be black but instead they are grey... (and the battery is fully charged)

Is this normal?

It is not a huge problem but if the contrast were greater it would be more readable. It is still under warranty, so if this is not normal I will consider sending it in...

Thanks for any advice.

One more thing...

The iPod didn't come with any install CDs, etc. Is this a problem? Can I download the software?

The software did come with the iPod but can be downloaded from apple.com, in fact here's a good place to start looking--

http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/

You'll also want to download iTunes if you're not already using it. 4.5 is the most recent version.

As to the screen, would it be possible to show a pic? even put it on a scanner? is this when the backlighting is on or off? The contrast can be adjusted but that doesn't sound like your problem...

Yeah, my screen has "dimmed," but I haven't paid much attention.

Mine has dimmed as well. A temporary workaround is to adjust the contrast level.

Settings > Contrast

I put mine up to about 60%, that seems to do the trick. Default is 50%.
