Emails read on PC still show as new on iPhone

Hi everyone. I'm a new iPhone user (3gs) and am having a problem with my email. I searched but didn't find anything. I have two email accounts - Hotmail and one for work. They are both set up as pop mail.

The problem is that the iPhone always shows the messages as new, even after I read them on my PC. I have to view each one on the iPhone as well for it to show as read. Any ideas for fixing this?

Is it a POP account? - Silly me, just read this.

POP will not call back to the server to update the unread/read status. POP will download to the device or computer and then it's local after that. To have it sync back your unread/read status you need to use IMAP or Exchange.
