So I need to be able to send my data to an outside file to be viewed, saved, and eventually graphed. Is there a way to send it straight to an excel file or do I need to send it to a text file and then sort it on my own?

If this is possible does any one know the most efficient way to go about this?

Thanks!

You could generate a CSV (comma separated value) file. Technically, you can use any type of delimiter, but I'm not sure how easy it is to make Excel accept a different delimiter character. The main reason to use other delimiter is if the comma character is in your regular data.

On Windows OS, if I use a file with .csv extension, Excel will read it.

If you use a graphing program like gnuplot, then that should also take csv files. A program like "matlab" prefers white-space delimited input.

Perhaps I would have been more helpful if I had said I was fairly new at this.
Also, I plan on graphing the data in excel as that is what my advisor is looking for.
