Ive read a few posts where ppl are b*tching about the landscape mode... im one of them! :)

i frequently have to be walking through airports and such where im bag dragging with one hand, and texting with the other, once the phone goes into landscape mode i cant one handed text... i found a solution tonight...

search in Cydia for Rotation Inhibitor, it integrates into SBSettings.

after you install it, HOLD down its button in sbsettings, and at the bottom of the screen it will display which mode the toggle will 'lock' you into. I cycled to it portrait. Now, with a SBSettings toggle you can lock the phone from going landscape on you.

im sure this has been around, i just wish i knew about it sooner, so i thought id put this out there.

happy non-landscaping :)

Yes I know :) I guess for most landscape is a life saver, but for those of us living life only slightly tilted this addon is a god send ;)

I have not tested this, I am just speculating, but, i think i know a way to disable the accelerometer completely. If you SSH to /System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app there is a file called M68AP.plist. I just edited this today to enable battery percentage on the 3G (http://www.winandmac.com/mobile/how-to-enable-battery-percentage-on-iphone-os-3-0-even-its-not-3gs/)

In that plist, there is an option called accelerometer and it is set to true, so I'm thinking you might be able to set that to false and never have to worry about the screen rotating again. (I'M NOT SURE IF THIS WORKS).

Obviously there is good and bad here. Not having the accelerometer enabled could theoretically save on battery life, and you would not have to install SBSettings (for those of you who stay away from MobileSubstrate). However, any game that uses the accelerometer would be useless..

Ideas?

We need a quick tether toggle! (Going to look at Cydia now)

Another nice thing to have would be a quick way to turn push notifications/push e-mail on and off.. to try and save battery when you don't need it (like when you're sitting at a computer)

You can just tap the rotation button once to lock it into portrait mode. You only need to hold it to lock it into a different mode.
