SIM activate?

I've tried to use Pwnagetool for mac to unlock my iphone, but it asks for a firmware package or something, but i don't know what firmware i have.. i have a 1st gen iphone that my friend gave me but i dont have a SIM card for it so i cant look in the settings or anything, and i cant use it with itunes because it tells me to activate it with a SIM.

i just want to unlock it so i can use it as an ipod, can someone help? :/

Well You can't use pwnage without the firmware. The latest firmware is 3.0 download it then restore it with itunes then unlock/jailbreak it with pwnage and it should be working even without a sim card. Or you can use your sim card since it's gonna be unlocked. But before you the unlock and JB you have to make sure which iphone you have.
