Hi all, sorry for bringing this up if its old news, but I didn't think it had happened yet. I'm over in Austria and out of the loop with news. Just got on my friends powerbook, was on iTunes, and accidentally hit the music store button. Everything popped up normally, so I was curious, and bought a song, and it worked! I have the entire thing, listening to it now. Did iTMS go through in Europe, or what the heck is going on?
Thanks

Is your friends PowerBook from the United States, and/or the billing address for the card which is used in the United States. I believe if you use a United States Billing address for the credit card, it will work.

My Powerbook has never been near the US and it's letting me through

...but won't let me put my credit card details in... how sad!

How about using the iTunes Gift Certificates?? Can someone in Europe use the iTunes Gift Certificates?? If I bought one for a friend here in a U.S. Apple Store, and send it over to the UK, will they be able to use it?

I don't think so.

I can now browse the store, see the prices but when I click download it asks me to create an account and the second part of that is confirming your credit card details... and if they don't have a US address, it kicks you out even if your usual cc details are in there.

So you can't have a full iTMS account so I doubt you'll make it through to use the certificate...

Most of the time, my hostname provided by my ISP ends in .net.nz, but occasionally it ends in .tsnz.net. When this happens, I can connect to iTMS without it popping up with the country warning. But it still won't let me buy anything without an account.

So is Apple just holding out on you guys or what?

well, the credit card is billed to a US account, my account, so maybe that's it. Still, it seems weird to me that I can buy them while in Austria, without a Europe iTMS

It's definately the billing address.

My Powerbook is a US Powerbook, but I live in the UK. When I go to iTMS, it tells me I can browse and preview, but not buy unless my billing address is in the US.

That said, there's been a change - it never even used to let me browse and preview, just gave an error. Hopefully this is Apple gearing up for the Europe-wide release.

Interesting, I've been able to preview and browse since day one. And it took me less than a week to figure out how to download the music videos :D

We've always been able to browse the store and download previews and music videos. Apple, after all, wants us to get aquainted with it so that we will use it when iTunes Europe becomes available, even though the store is turned off by default (to avoid anti-competition problems).

If you have a US billing address for your credit card, you can use the store. However, for this, you need to know someone in the US who you trust who and have it in their name. Then you can use the store...

Don't worry, only about a month until we should get our store!
