I have kept my 3G without a cover over a year did not have a single scratch on the screen. The 3G screen glass seems really tough, also I did try to look after it and treat it carefully.

However I have read several reports that the 3GS with it's fancy coating is prone to scratching. Either this is some ploy by the people selling plastic covers to make more sales or Apple stuffed up.

Why would you break what seems like a perfect screen in the 3G with some fancy touch proof screen for the sake or prevent fingerprints and smudges. I am also wondering why there is not lint free cloth included with the 3GS. Since if they expect us to cover the fancy new screen with a protector, it would void the fancy coating and one would need a cloth to clean it. But then why do the fancy coating in the first place.

I'd be interested to hear from those of you who actually got an 3GS and if you covered it, or if it in fact scratches very easily. I am hoping that the 3GS is a step forward and not back.

Thanks in advance

I asked at my Apple store why the cleaning cloth was not included with the 3GS and was told it is because the new coating on the screen is meant to prevent fingerprints (yeah right!).

I don't have a screen protector on my 3GS (I did have one on my 3G) and haven't scratched the screen with normal usage yet. The phone is constantly in and out of my purse and pocket and is holding up just fine; however the new coating on the screen doesn't prevent from fingerprints or face marks at all in my opinion.

I'm debating the same thing. This is my first Iphone (3gs) and I'm being really careful with it. I don't want to lose any screen sensitivity. especially after having the lg vu. The warranty only covers the screen if it stops working right?

Please read the thread. He wasn't asking about AppleCare. PLUS it DOES NOT cover everything. It doesn't cover scratches, drops, water damage. It only covers defects.

To the OP, I put a screen protector on mine. Can't live without one.

I had this (http://store.apple.com/us/product/TN612LL/A?fnode=MTY1NDA0NA&mco=MTIxOTQ5OQ) screen protector on my 3G- purchased from the Apple store and did not lose any screen sensitivity. If that is your only concern, I would definitely go for it. The price is only $15 for two screen protectors (perhaps split the cost with a friend who also wants one) and they last FOREVER. They are very easy to adhere and to remove and will leave no sticky residue at all.

hey thanks a lot. I bought a three pack not knowing they were for the touch before the phone came out, and returned them. I wanted to put the protector on as soon as I peeled the factory plastic off. so much for that :)
