To all the great people here at MacRumors- hope you are having a great Gay Pride month! Our parade is this Sunday in Chicago. I know others of you have had yours already. If you've got pics- put 'em up! I'll try to post some on Monday.

Shouldn't you have posted this like...on the first of June?

Happy Gay Pride everybody, even though I'm not gay.

I should have! But I tend to think about it more as the date of our parade approaches. Plus, I've been really busy with work lately.

I'll be attending Brighton pride in the UK this year in August and our local Bournemouth Pride (or Bourne Free) will be next month.

I'm not one for the parades but i'll be there for a few bevies so to speak. :D

This was last years:

I'm on the left with the most hideous drag queen... The Pimms was on tap though which makes her more bearable...

Was it Obama that named June Gay Pride Month then? I remember Digg users were up in arms at the concept:

He was the first President to mention it. But June has been considered Pride month for many years.

And yes- that is a very scary drag queen indeed. :)

I think the DC parade has already come and gone.

Freak shows of the highest magnitude.

Boy, she does look a bit rough.

It's been surprisingly quiet here, but that might just be perspective having changed slightly by moving a little South of Church and Wellesley.

Yay! GObama!
Haha, I've always wanted to go to a pride festival for the atmosphere. It looks interesting. Also all those people unafraid to be proud of who they are is kind of...inspiring to say the least. :)

I often find that the concept of "pride" and many of the costumes worn in the parade at odds with each other. :D

I do agree but I think everyone should be proud of who they are, provided they have something worthwhile to be proud of that is... :D

I considered staying out of the thread for fear of catching "teh gay", but I figure I'll risk it!

Yea people being example to express themselves! (admittedly we have lots more to do before we're done, but its a nice push)

Three things.

1) I have no one to go with.
2) I have no way to get there
3) I have no money to take the train and cab.

Maybe next year...?

Well, I guess it can wait another year. But you have to go! It's so much fun and you'll never feel that much love at any other event. It's awesome.

It was London Pride yesterday and the parade ended in Trafalgar Square. I noticed St Martin-in-the-Fields, one of the most beautiful churches in London, was flying the flag (taken with my 3GS!):

What I don't get with the pride thing, is that at least here in Norway, they sort of claim rights that others don't have. I mean, wearing chaps with only a g-string underneath is a "right" but if anyone else did it they would problaby get arrested for indecent exposure.

I think that if gay people want to increase their acceptance, they should maybe stop portraying themselves as "loonies". I know a couple of gay guys, and they're just like me, only they like guys instead of girls.

Lastly, I'm all for gay right to things like marriage. However, I don't think we can force religious groups who don't condone homosexuals to marry them. (This has been a big part of the debate here in Norway)

No churches are being forced to marry anyone- at least in the US. Honestly- where does this come from?

And we'll portray ourselves any way we want, thanks. That's part of the point.

No need to get all defensive. I just think that a lot of people who are less open-minded are intimidated by the way some of you portray yourself. I personally don't care. :)

As for the marriage thing, it was a reflection on the debate in Norway. But I suppose that doesn't matter, since it's not the US? ;)

Been nice to the less open-minded for too long. It gets us no where.

Not at all. Are they forcing churches to marry people in Norway?

There's an issue with us having a state religion (which is useless, since most of the population is either atheistic or agnostic according to studies). Since the political state has "legalized" gay marriage, the state church, being an institution empowered by the political state, actually has to comply. But they refuse. So stuff might change quite soon here (I hope).

I don't know about where you are, but around here a g-string bikini isn't something a woman gets arrested for wearing.

The State Church in Norway is a dying institution. Its often joked that member of the State Church attend twice in their life and both times they are carried (baptism and funeral). Most Norwegians want nothing to do with it other than the tradition.

I was a missionary in Norway for two years and it think it changed me more than I changed them. Its a wonderful country.

Also its interesting that you can go topless in Norway at beaches, erotic (porn) magazines are plastered in windows at children's eye level showing lots and lots of breasts, but yet somehow backless chaps upsets the poster somehow. (At least thats how it was when I lived their in the early 90s)
