I'm one of those people that doesn't have a favorite band/song. If anything, my fav. song is only my favorite for less than a week. So I vote: "Errr, I have no idea, lots of favorites, I guess."

'Smothered hope' by Skinny Puppy. No contest.
'Malady' from the new Impreative Reaction CD is pretty f'n ace though, deseves a mention, as does any post-Radio-Activity Kraftwerk.

Like King Cobra, I really have no favourite, and any favourite is only a favourite for a few days. My favourite this week was the same favourite I had 4 weeks ago, and 3 months ago, and last year. All the songs by Kings Of Convenience are being played all the time right now, but that was true 1.5 years ago as well. My favourite's list is cyclic. K of C will be my favourite again probably in 2 months.
What's RJD2?

Not my fave band, but Thin Lizzy's Still in love with you (http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewAlbum?playlistId=719507&selectedItemId=719471) from their Live and Dangerous album might just be the best song ever. It's got one of the best guitar solis in the rock world.

If I had to choose just one artist/band (from my favorites) it would have to be The Clash.
Best song is worse, that's virtually impossible to choose, because it changes over time and depends what mood you're in what you're doing etc. If I were to (try and) pick one that's lasted over time, fits most moods and activities I would have to go with Edie (Ciao Baby) by The Cult (http://www.dailytunes.com/songs/20050601203249.html), that's just an awesome song...
Edit: Wow, this thread was over a year old...

Love that track. I had "Give It Away" playing while we signed the register at my wedding. Zero 7 that is - not the RHCP.
Favourite artist and song? I must have heard "Alive" by Pearl Jam a thousand times and I never get tired of it.

Adagio For Strings - DJ Tiesto.
In case ya didn't know it is Adagio for Strings by Samuel Barber, arranged/remixed by DJ Tiesto. (sry, just a nitpicky composer thing!) :p
Of Music that People would actually know:
Pink Floyd- Dark Side of the Moon
(i know, people will say that Dark Side is an whole album, not a song, but to me, conceptually it (any many of their albums) is one long song, divided into movements, much like a Beethoven Symphony, or a Opera by Mozart)
Of Music that most have no clue of:
John Adams- Harmonium

That's a tough one. I would have to say either
Good Times Are Killing Me - Modest Mouse (http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewAlbum?playlistId=6395765&selectedItemId=6396097)
or
Motorcycle Drive By - Third Eye Blind (http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewAlbum?playlistId=772068&selectedItemId=772028)

Hmm, it changes all the time, but I guess I'd say Be The Rain by Neil Young. I just got back from a CSN concert, and they sang a Daylight Again/Find The Cost Of Freedom medley. That's going to stick with me for a while.
