Ok, the latest build in 6C87 or soemthing right? Well regardless, that's not really why I started this thread, what my question is is this:

I'm assuming when it gets to the theoretical "6C100" then it's final? Or does it become beta? Or even Public Beta? If that's when it's final, we'll be seeing it quite soon it looks like...even if that means it becomes beta, we'll be seeing it soon, only 13 more builds, and they are coming out pretty rapidly by the sounds of it...

I don't think they signify anything. When they are ready to release it they will regardless of numbering. My (legal) copy of 10.1 is 5F64 or something like that.

...(according to a smart guy on macnn).

6 = OS X.2 (5 was 10.1, 4 was 10.0).
C = branch (speculative, learn about Mozilla for a better explanation of branched projects)
87 = build number

build numbers can go over 100, one of the 10.1 versions was 5Q125 or something like that. If 10.2 branches again (most likely to add a major feature) then we might see 6Dxx builds. Early Jaguar builds were 6Bxx.

They wouldn't get much done if they set a arbitrary build number.
