When I was testing my battery I saw very little change between speaker at 1/2 volume and earphones.

It's good if you're in a quiet area. At work (American Eagle Retail) it'd be impossible to hear it clearly in the front end of the store (where customers are) because it is just so loud, but last week I was thrown in the back just to clean everything up, and the speaker was more than sufficient for listening purposes.
