no notable violence at the july 4th hollister biker rally...thank god
it is this rally which was featured in the marlon brando movie "the wild bunch" and that brings in looking for someone to add the the violent mystique surrounding the motorocycle culture
in the movie, "easy rider", the two bikers end up getting shot by some local cowboys and this has left a longtime rivalry between the two groups in california
in the movie, "colors", the violence depicted was largely a rare phenomenon but membership in these tough groups exploded after the movie
reality often follows hollywood and this weekend things were normal for us

The first week in August will be our rally. The Sturgis Rally and Races held in Sturgis, SD. It is world famous, one of the largest in this country. I don't own a motorcycle, but if you do, and especially a Harley, then come on up...it is a great time for all!

the local press was repeating the nevada shootout story which happened prior to hollister so many of us locals were very nervous
as it turns out, things went so well that the hollister people in general asked for there to be another event next year
we used to have world class concerts at laguna seca which would bring in tens of thousands but the fathers of the county decided having amy grant or the grateful dead was a little too much for a two lane highway to handle:p
we also had the famous monterey pop festival with hendrix, the who, and janis joplin but monterey banned any such huge events after that and now we only have smaller names at the fairgrounds
the cool events or famous events which bring in the crowds, and sometimes violence, happen mostly in nearby san jose or san francisco
there is still talk about the san francisco giants moving to san jose one day
the idea of a hockey team in san jose was laughed at once, but the san jose sharks have made a name for themselves and the highly researched uniform with black, white, and turquoise remains as the top selling sports logo in the whole world...even more popular than the new york yankees logo...which ranks second in popularity
Ehm, not wanting to offend anyone here, but doesn't this thread belong in community discussion?
