I came in to possesion of an old iPhone 2g which is jailbroken. It runs 1.0.1 and hasn't been updated for about 1.5 years. My question is can I simply update it to 3.0 or do I need to update to 1.0.1 and then to 3.0? I'm concerned that since this iPhone is jailbroken if I simply update it to 3.0 right away it will be bricked.

You can update with no problems, once so ever. Except for the ones 3.0 gives you =D.

Yes, you can update through iTunes. No problem. 3.0 can be jailbroken and unlocked.

I have one that's running 1.1.1. Jailbroken and unlocked. I want to upgrade to 3.0 too. How should I do it?
Many of the tutorials seem to assume that you just want to jailbreak (don't need to unlock if you live in USA and use AT&T) or that you have a 3G phone.
It is essential that can be unlocked after upgrade to 3.0. If it comes into a state where it cannot be unlocked it might as well be a brick.
