So I'm stuck here with a macbook that only has usb connection only... no firewire ports :( I've had this camcorder since before I bought my macbook, and never bothered to make a video on Imovie on it yet. So My camcorder isnt being recognized by the macbook and I've searched the internet. Most people say that I firewire is needed to import movies, but I have no firewire ports on this damn macbook. I bought the version that came with no firewire ports. So am I SOLed or is there a way to import from this camcorder? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Sorry - you'll need to find a firewire-equipped machine to import video from your camcorder.

I have an external HD, a western digital passport. It has a firewire port, So can I hook up my camcorder to the HD using firewire then HD to macbook with USB? I know the only way to find out for sure is to try it out and I will, so I'll have to go out and get some firewire. But does anybody know if this will work?

nope, that won't work... you need a computer with FW to import DV footage.
