Does anybody plan to use the new Cash For Clunkers program to get a new car? What type of car are you trading-in/buying?

Thanks.

I'm trying to get my son to trade in his pimpmobile for a Civic. Not having much luck but I'll keep working on it.

One of the many problems I see with this program is you have to buy a NEW car to qualify. The new car you get must meet 22mpg for a car. This puts me off because most of the cars I'm interested in average around 18mpg.

Its really not that great of a deal for the consumer.

Don't quote me, but check the quoted website below. I believe it depends on what you are purchasing. For example, you would be hard pressed to find an SUV or TRUCK that gets 22 MPG, so I believe that if that is what you buy that the new vehicle only has to get 4 MPG better than the vehicle you are trading in.

Worth looking into if you are interested.

The purpose of the program is 1) to help the dying car industry 2.) get high polluting, less safe cars off the road. Sounds like a good plan to me.
