i finally got my fata$$ off the couch and started running again, since 3gs came with Nike+.

after a few runs, i noticed that holding the phone probably isn't the best way to do it.

looking for suggestions on which armband/plastic bag/super glue fellow 3gs folks use.

thanks.

I've literally just got a Belkin Sport Armband for my 3GS. I can't speak for use (yet - I may add to this post tomorrow am after my first run with it) but it's a nice looking and quality feeling armband, better than most of the nano armbands I've had in the past.

As it's made for the Touch as well, there is a headphone port on the rear bottom of the case. The iPhone is held in well and there is a key slot as well, which will prove useful as up until now I've ran with my keys in hand - I've just got to get a spare key cut.

If looks & quality were anything to go by, this is an impressive armband!

PS Hadn't heard anything good about the Bone range of armbands.

I've been looking to get one too for working out, but haven't found a good one, but the Apple store sells two of them:

http://store.apple.com/us/product/TS464LL/A?fnode=MTY1NDA0NA&mco=MjE1NTM5Mw&p=1&s=topSellers

http://store.apple.com/us/product/TS493VC/A?fnode=MTY1NDA0NA&mco=MjQyMDUzNA&p=1&s=topSellers

Both have terrible reviews, especially the Belkin one.

Thankfully I have an earlier version as I'd seen heard bad things about the 3G specific model, but admittedly I'm concerned about the sections only being glued together. May see I I can get a friend who is handy with a sewing machine to do the honors!

After doing a few runs I also came to to the conclusion I didn't really want to hold the 3GS or even mess with it much while running. I am not a fan of armbands though so I went with a simple Spibelt (http://www.spibelt.com/spibelt.php), which is like more or less a belt-like strap with a stretch pouch for the iPhone. You could put the iPhone into a ziplock inside it if you want to make it water resistant too. It is small enough I can wear it hidden under my shorts too. The nice thing is that unlike putting the phone into a pocket it doesn't bounce around much.

After running this way a few times I also came to the conclusion that while you can use Apple's ear-buds to change volume and start and stop things you can't activate your power song or invoke the spoken feedback stuff. I went and got a Nike+ AMP watch which lets me control all that stuff during the workout. So far this seem to be the best for me. The iPhone is tucked away safely and all the control I need is on my wrist. If you went with a wireless headset you could completely seal it up in a ziplock and make it pretty much watertight w/o the headphone cable preventing a full seal.

I too am looking for for an armband that fits an ipod touch as well as the 3GS. Is there a headphone port at both ends of the armband? Also, do you by any chance have a link to the version you have? Thanks

iNcase sports armband for the touch is an AWESOME case for the 3G and 3GS. It's made for working out ( think it wicks sweat) but because the phone version is detachable, the touch version works perfect and stays more snug to the body.

I've played the trial and error game with this case. nothing came close to this case.

one other question: how do you guys manage cable length with armbands? I have great earphones for running, but the cord is rather long, and I'd prefer not to buy new earphones just for use with an armband

After researching this intensly for a few days I went with this one....

http://www.amazon.com/SPORT-ARMBAND-COVER-IPHONE-Eforcity/dp/B001CSKMDE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=wireless&qid=1246462841&sr=8-1

Main reasons were:
1.Almost all the other armbands I came across had awful reviews, this one for the most part had great reviews.
2.It was only a few bucks so for the price I figured if it didnt work out I could just toss it and go back to searching.

I must say I am pretty impressed with it. Fits fine, feels fine. Only issue I am running into, which I am pretty concerned about it that when I go on my longer runs (7, 8 miles) I sweat so much that it completly sokes the case and it goes through it to the back of the iPhone a little. I am trying to come up with a way to fix this. I was thinking about maybe getting an armband and putting it around my bicep and then putting the phone on or possibly go with a plastic bag then putting the iphone into the case. Not sure if the plastic bag thing would work or not but I def want to figure this out/ or get a better case.

I found this new armband .. the Armpocket (http://www.armpocket.com).. at the LA Marathon running expo. I bought it - as they said it was water resistant (no need for ziplock bags), and as it can also hold my car keys and ID.
It's been pretty hot on my long runs, ("sweating"), but it didn't feel like I had anything on my arm, it didn't slip a bit, and my phone stayed dry. And I'm able to control the music via the screen.. this is the best deal out there in my view. I got a black - Sport 20, but they come in lot's of colors.

The ArmPocket looks great. Would it work with an incase slider case on your phone? If so, I am sold. Thanks.

I am hoping it also works with a case. I went ahead and ordered one and hope it works with my Speck Candyshell case. If not, I got other uses for it.

I bought an Armpocket at the Seattle Rock N Roll marathon expo. I love it!!
It looks like there is plenty room for a case - I don't use one - just my iPhone, but there is room for my keys, lip balm, gels and more - so I think a case would be fine too.

Does anyone else think the Armpocket is a little to bulky? I am still looking to find the perfect armband that holds only the iphone. I am really really really hoping that Nike will end up making one just as they do for the ipod nano.

Yeah it is. I have the armpocket 30 which is the largest size (no choice for me due to arm size) and find that the phone has too much room to move around. The headphone opening helps keep it in place but the phone is not locked in. That being said, I think it's made well and will probably keep it as I could use the room for other stuff like keys and cards.

Yeah, nothing like running with a giant brick in the pocket.

I have used my armpocket 20 for a week now. The armpocket is built very well and looks as though it will hold up for quite a long time. I like the fact that I can use it with my incase slider on my phone. Some have noted that it is a little bulky and I tend to agree with that, but once you put it on, it has not been a problem for me. I am not crazy about using the touch panel while the phone is in the armpocket. The phone doesn't always sit perfectly in the armpocket's window so this can be a problem at times. Don't get me wrong, it is very usable while in the armpocket, but it could be a bit better.

All and all, I am very happy with my purchase as it is the best alternative I have found that allows you to keep your normal case on the phone. The armpocket is very comfortable and stays in place while running. If you are like me and want to keep your normal case on your phone when you go out for a run, the armpocket is a good choice.

I had mentioned in a previous post that it was a little bulky (I'm using the armpocket 30) and would have to agree that once it is on, it's not a problem. It actually works well with my vaja ivolution with the front cover folded back to show the screen.

Agree with the rest of your points as well. Well made, doesn't slip and sweat doesn't soak thru from the back. It should be water resistant but I havent tested that out yet.

Thank you both for the reviews on the arm pocket. As both of you have said, its a little bit bulky. Despite it not being to notable for both of you I personal feel that it is to bulky for me taste, I guess each his own. I am going to hold out (hoepfully not forever) for Nike to put something out. I noticed that they just updated their Nike+ page to talk about the iPhone 3gs so maybe at some point we will have what I am looking for. I would love to hear more reviews of anyone else out there that has purchased an armband though.

Griffin makes an Iclear that comes with an arm band sold at Target. Basically it's a snap on hard case with two slots on the back that a velcro strap goes through around the arm.

Looks ok..

I bought the Otterbox and the Otterbox armband. This is the only armband I found that works with a case, so that I don't need to take a case off to put my iPhone in an armband.

After seeing some of you guys talking about the Armpocket, I had to write in on it. I picked up mine at the Bloomsday Run in Spokane, WA (the sport20 model, i think). I'm pretty sure what I had been using at the time was the Belkin, it worked alright... but it wasn't very comfortable to wear (I have pretty big arms...), and I was limited to just holding my 3G.

There's a lot of trail running available in my area and I used to have to either run with my car keys in pocket (didn't like the bouncing around) or hide them around my car. With the Armpocket, I can hold my 3G as well as my car keys -and don't have to put it in a ziplock bag to keep the water and sweat out.

I've had mine for more than 3 months now and it seems to be holding up really well. It doesn't use glue or anything like my old band did, and overall I'm really happy with my purchase.

Hey guys...newbie but long time lurker here. Do those of you with the 20sport mind posting pics? I just got mine today and can't get mine to fit with the slider, or without it for that matter. It's even worse when I plug in my headphone jack (use shure headphones). Can't even get it closed.

The only way I'm getting my phone to fit in the sport 20 is by placing it in upside down. Mine looks different from all the pictures on the website. I have the black one with the large screen area and my armpocket logo is on the top of the case as opposed to the bottom. Don't think this is the issue though.

Just received mine today and I'm not even sure how the iphone is supposed to go in but I think I have to keep it upside down in order to access the headphones. I have the same one as Drill423. And mine DOES fit tightly with the Mophie Juice Pack Air case on it. I can't figure out how the headphone jack at the bottom is used. And the band is maybe a little too big for me. I also think the Mophie makes the iPhone too heavy to run with.

Also, whatever they use as Velcro is not strong/sticky enough. I feel like the band is going to open up while running, esp. since the iphone with the Mophie case is really heavy.

I couldn't quite figure out how to get my iphone and headphones to fit in the sport 20 so I actually returned it and got the xtreme 30. The iphone now fits a little loosely, but I have enough room for my headphones. Happier with the 30 overall.

Is it alot bigger? I called the company yesterday and asked about the headphone port. I was told to just put the headphone plug thru the bottom port first and then connect to the iphone when inserted in the pouch. Well, that doesn't work for me because my 2 sets of headphones have an
L-shaped connector, not a straight one. I have to leave it rightside up and zip just to the headphones and then I run the headphones out of the case thru the holder along the side of the case. Clumsy but it worked fine today at the gym. In fact, it was very comfortable and I forgot the case was on my arm, even though it is definitely heavy with Mophie Juice Pack Air case on the iphone. However, I didn't run too much so I'm not sure if at some point it would have slid off or the armband would have opened up. But for other cardio and weights, it was fine, definitely a step up from the Belkin I tried.

I was also told that in a month or so, they will be making these armbands with a smaller strap, which I probably could use.
