View Full Version : Got my iFrogz Luxe today! (high quality pics)...first impression

As some of you know, I went to the at&t store last week and tried on the iFrogz Luxe case. I loved how easy it slipped on (just like the Innocase II with the felt lining). Since at&t smokes dust and charges $30 , I came home and ordered on ebay for $14 shipped :D

The pics online don't do it justice for people who are interested in this case. So I took the time to go outside and capture some images of the case so everyone can see it's true color. The metallic burnt orange is SOOOOO SWEET.

First impression....

What I like

-Love the color
-Love how simple it slides in (not worried about scratches here :D)
-All the cutouts are absolutely perfect
-Love the "lay on the table" design with a touch of bezel showing, looks classy
-Closes very firm and tight (you can see from the pics)
-The grippy feel is VERY nice and shows NO fingerprints (love this)
-Feels just as slim as the Innocase II...no bulk at all!

What I don't like

Only 2 things so far and not major at all...

-Too much cutout near the volume rocker (maybe will show some hairline scratches later from pocket use?)
-It grabbed my Anti-Glare shield at the bottom initially, but it seems to gotten better and it very minimal. Doesn't bother me at all. (check the pics) It could of been because I was so excited to put it on LOL.

All in all, for $14 shipped, its a deal and has made it into my Top 5 cases.

Enjoy the pics

Awesome pics! Thanks for posting. I have to admit that I really do like the orange - I just don't know if I would want to carry that around every day. I got the silver (boring I know) but I really wanted all black. I can't for the life of me figure out why they don't make an all-black version - seems like a no-brainer. Anyway, I think you and I ordered on the same day so I'm hoping I get mine today as well. I hope I have a little better luck with my Anti-Glare too - mine is just about perfect.

my anti-glare is absolutely perfect and i believe there isnt anything i can do about it. the bubble has lessened and doesn't bother me.

i got the orange because i loved the metallic orange look. plus i already have every other color in other cases :D

You might have read my story to the AT&T store, I couldn't put the case on, and when I asked the AT&T employee to do it, he ended up breaking the case! Luckily they didn't charge me for it, but I'm going to try it again from amazon, but first I'm going to go to the AT&T store again to practice getting it on and off to make sure I can actually work with the case. I really hope that the store will match the price, it costs $30 at AT&T but $14 on amazon, so I wanted to know how was it for you putting the case on? Those 2 side tabs on the bottom part of the case really get to you, it took more than 10 minutes for the employee to get it on my iPhone before it broke when he snapped it (somehow not taking any part of my iPhone with it!)

I can't believe I haven't gotten mine yet. I'm pretty sure we both ordered on the same day from the same ebay seller and I'm still waiting (mail already came today too). I know the guy shipped it because I got the shipping notice, but it shouldn't be taking this long. I wish it would come already.

i'll admit that the case is not user friendly like the incase slider. it was very annoying taking off when i wanted to dock it.

i'm sticking with my incase slider full time. the best slider IMO :D

Cases. Cases. Cases. Bestskinsever.com - back only. PowerSupport Crystal Film for the screen. Looks naked, feels naked, I can put it in my pocket and no problems whatsoever.

Had a 1G iPhone with skin, sold it in perfect mint condition 1 yr later.
Got a 3G iPhone and added skin. When they replaced my unit last week for technical issues, I put a skin on the replacement. But when I took mine in to have it changed out, I peeled the skin off and it was like it was brand new. Plus the skin gives it a bit of grip so it doesn't feel like it will slip out of your hand. Slides in and out of my pocket, dock, very easily. If you want a case too, look into the foofshop pouches.

So it's much easier to put on than to take it off? Your review said that it was simple to slide in so I should be good to do if I have no need to dock it, right?

Well I personally didn't have a problem taking it off and putting back on, but it seems a little annoying. This is why I'm sticking with the incase. Simple to take apart to dock and I feel it's the best case I own.

I like the ifrogz but like the incase much more

Huh? You're sticking with the Incase Slider? This is sort of frustrating, I returned my Incase slider because it scratched my 3G, but I've heard that they're rolling out a new model of the Slider that clips instead of slides, though I have yet to know how I will differentiate between the two (different model numbers?). I already ordered one green and one blue Luxe from Amazon, and I'm sure I'll like it, but I've gotta admit the Incase Slider was my favorite case on the inside, but I just keep thinking that charging the phone in a case is bad for the battery. Who knows, I might just keep both cases and get the Slider as soon as I find out it's safe again!

yeah i can't get enough of this charcoal slider..that big cutout near the volume rocker on the luxe bothered me and i just didn't wanna deal with the clip part (since i use a dock at night). plus it made my anti-glare bubble a little at the bottom and i'm happy after a day without the luxe, the screen protector is back to being perfect

Finally got my silver and black Luxe today (I'll try to post some pics at some point as well). I expected it to be a lot tougher to put on but it wasn't bad at all. I actually put the bottom on first because I figured that it would be more likely to cause my screen protector to bubble (I thought the little edges on the bottom corners could be problematic). Anyway, I managed to get it on without any issues and my screen protector did not bubble at all. The top was pretty easy to get on as well and the tabs went underneath like they were supposed to. I definitely like the way the phone looks in this case and I'm glad the Apple logo is no longer exposed like it was with my Innocase. I'm going to have to use it for a bit to see if anything bothers me but so far I like it. The black and silver kind of gives it a "2G' look and I'm digging that so far.

The cutout for the volume rocker and ringer switch is probably a tad bigger than the one on the Seidio, but I can't see it being much of an issue for me. The headphone, camera and power button cutouts are great and pretty much dead-on. I don't even mind the chrome bezel being a bit exposed either. The Innocase covered the bezel completely but the case itself seems to scratch the chrome anyway (the chrome on my 3GS already had a few scratches on it and my old 3G had some scratches as well). I'm not really worried about my chrome getting scratched up since I don't keep anything else in my pocket with my phone (if some dirt or whatever else manages to find its way into my pocket, there's not much I can do about that). Plus the case has enough lay on table design that I can safely lay it face down on a desk or table without worrying about scratching my chrome.

Just ordered on Red/Black Luxe case for my 3GS.

We'll see if it can beat my Griffin Clarifi case, which is the best case what I have used so far...not much extra bulk and fits tightly to the phone...i'll just love it...just wish I could get in white color.

Here are some pics of my Silver and Black Luxe. I'm still trying to decide if I should stick with this or try an Incase Slider. Im just worried about the Incase causing scratches since I've read several complaints about that. I might go to a local store and see if I can find one that is totally smooth on the inside.

thats all you have to do. go to a store and try out the case and check for flash. its really that simple and getting annoying (not saying you :D) hearing all the complaining about scratching the phone.

No need to apologize - to each his own:). It's tough finding the perfect case - one that looks good, provides the protection you're looking for, and doesn't scratch the phone. The Luxe is definitely not perfect for me but I do like it so far. Theoretically the Incase Slider may be the perfect case for me but that's only if it doesn't scratch my phone. I don't need a case to scratch my phone - I can do that just fine all by myself:D.

I have the same likes and dislikes. I took time installing the screen protector and the case so the grab is not due to your excitement. I think the tightness of the case causes this. I would prefer it to be tight than loose.

That being said, the biggest complaint I have is that the cutout near the volume rocker is insanely large.

It won't take a spill like my Capsule Rebel will, but all in all for $14.00 shipped it's a nice change of pace.

We have two of these and from my experience they are hands-down the best hard case. Snug fit, no damage to the phone and great protection. I've had mine for close to a year and removed it the other day to clean the edges. The 3G looked like it just came out of the box new. Plus it really does feel great in the hand without adding much bulk at all.

I stopped by Target today and saw some Incase Sliders there - I just had to pick one up:). I got what I can only assume is matte black (it only says black on the package but I compared it to another black Slider there that was clearly more of a glossy finish). Anyway, I wanted to put it on when I got home but I had to take off my Luxe first. It must have been on really tight because I had a heck of a time getting it off (I see what map1978 was talking about now). Makes me think my Luxe might be defective too because there were definitely some very noticeable gaps where the top and bottom pieces connected. I may have to return my Luxe or exchange it.

I have to admit that the Incase has a really nice feel to it - the matte finish on it makes it very similar to my Innocase but without the annoying cutout for the Apple logo. The cutout for the camera is definitely bigger than the one on the Innocase but that doesn't bother me. Everything else is pretty similar except for the fact that there's no felt on the inside of the case (wonder if I could put some really thin felt in there myself:confused:). I rarely take my case off my phone so I'm hoping that I won't have to worry about scratching the back or the bezel. I'm also wondering if the matte finish of the case will chip or wear off though (lots of reviews on Apple's site mention this problem). Anyone have some personal experience with this? I wonder if the bamboo versions are less susceptible to that kind of wear. No issues with my PS Anti-Glare bubbling either so this case is a winner so far.

It was $34.99 plus tax. I'm sure that's not the best price but there's something to be said for being able to actually examine a product before you shell out for it. There didn't seem to be anything in there that would scratch the phone but it did have that line to the right of the camera hole that was mentioned in the other thread with the Flickr pics. It's weird because you almost want to slide the phone in and out a few times to see if it scratches, but then again you don't want to for obvious reasons. I'm going to read up a bit on the bamboo version as well - it's a bit of a different look and I might want something like that.

I would be careful about ordering from that place. I ordered an external battery for my iphone from them and the thing starting melting and smoking while it was charging. I know this is only a case so there are no worries like that, but you do get what you pay for. The real Luxe cases can be had pretty cheap on ebay and elsewhere, so I would pay the extra money for the real thing. It's obviously up to you though so take my advice with a grain of salt.

Change of plans, I walk in my local Target and the Incase Slider (Black Matte) was on sale for $27.99, I believe. It totaled 30 bucks. I decided to get it. I was planning on going to Best Buy and getting the white Incase Slider (I had this on my 3G iPhone), I had no problems with it. I decided to switch it up and go black on my white 3GS. I love Incase Sliders. I'm still not 100% sure I'll stick with it or order the cheaper Luxe. $30 or $11.99 for the luxe online. I'll decide today. That $18 bucks can go on a car charger for my phone.

Have usually had real good luck with shipping at buy.com. But this order does say 2-3 business days for processing and I placed an order around the same time you did.

Was hoping to see that it was done and shipped but not yet. Maybe tomorrow.
So while awaiting a blue, I ordered a red one for $3. Got an email saying they will notify on shipment.

We shall see who wins. Have no idea where buy.com will ship from but it will be interesting which one comes first and from where.

Strangely I wouldn't be surprised if the iRibbit beat the iFrogz from buy.com.

Think I said it in a wrong way.

The case slides very nicely to the phone, but the clippy thing which hooks the two pieces together isn't very hardly in place. A little pull to the other end and the down part is come off.

I don't know if this is supposed to be like this but it seems pretty strange...

Wow - that's slightly different from my experience. I can't seem to get the ring to clip into place either but the case was almost impossible to get off (once I finally managed to get it off, I actually returned it). I'm waiting for the one I ordered from Buy.com to come (they're taking forever to ship it for some reason). I'm hoping that the one I got was just defective or something. Think I said it in a wrong way.

The case slides very nicely to the phone, but the clippy thing which hooks the two pieces together isn't very hardly in place. A little pull to the other end and the down part is come off.

I don't know if this is supposed to be like this but it seems pretty strange...

This was my issue too, did you buy it off ebay? I contacted my seller (youlovethisdeal) and they are sending a replacement as well as a prepaid envelope to mail my defective one back.

I just returned my Incase Slider to the Apple store today because the matte finish was starting to peel off on it, especially on the corners. I had only had it about two weeks. Has anybody else seen this happen?

Thinking about getting the iFrogz Luxe, but they did not have it in the Apple store. Would rather buy in person, to check it out.

Fits really well. The cutout for the camera is slightly off-center, but not enough so that it blocks the lens or anything.

Oh, sorry psywzrd... I didn't read your question closely enough. You're right, there is no felt on the bottom piece. Just the top. So far no scratches from taking it on and off though.

Mine did that too, it caught the film and pushed it up on the corners. I pressed down the corners with my thumbs while at the same time sliding the case on, and that worked. However, when I remove the case, the corners look a little depressed. They eventually went back to normal though. I guess it's just super tight on the corners with the film.

Didn't work, even borrowed my friend's Blockbuster card. I think it's how the case is positioned against the lower part of the iPhone. I don't want to trim my screen protector - might even screw it more on alignment. I even re-applied my SGP film, moving it upwards, in a very timely but precise position still the Luxe case causes it to bubble. Appreciate all of your help guys. I guess I have to settle with 2 bubbles :(

Nope, I managed to get them down once I noticed them by re-applying the case. Do you have the kind of film that's static cling? Maybe that's why. Mine is bodyguardz and it holds on for dear life, so maybe it's easier to keep it from bubbling. Still, that's frustrating... there's gotta be a way to keep that from creating bubbles..

Yes I have a static cling film, to be precise it's the Steinheil Anti-Fingerprint screen protector for the iPhone 3G/3GS. I think you're right, because it's a static cling, any force applied at the very edge causes it to get raised somewhat and cause a bubble. Sad part is I have a bigger bubble than the OP's pictures on the first page :(

As long as you're not in a rush to get it, go ahead and order it from Buy. I ordered mine a week ago and it still hasn't shipped.

I did just get the shipping notice myself. Via Fedex apparently with a tracking number. But it's coming from Los Angeles and I'm in NY. So latter part of next week it says.

Wondering if the $3 ebay iRibbit version will beat it or not on arrival. Nothing on shipping from those guys yet ordered days later.

Today I stopped in at Radio Shack to see the Seidio Innocase II. Nice case. Got to touch and feel it and tried it but on the bottom it lifted up my Steinheil anti-fingerprint. It's the wrong size so I didn't care to play with it as the correct one is coming in the mail.

Nice case. But for $30 it seems really overpriced. A little scouting around and you have lots of other good choices.

I have one cozip in black ($6 shipped via Amazon prime) and another in blue I like better for $10. There's the iFrogz in blue coming for $12 and then the red iRibbit ebay version for $3.

All those cases for just one Seidio Innocase II? In the words of Penelope Cruz, "Aye dun thin so." :D

I have an Innocase as well. I like it but I'm sick of it and hate the logo cutout on the back. I'm a bit worried about the Steinheil Anti-Fingerprint now too - it seems they are more prone to bubbling than the PS Anti-Glare I've been using (although my Incase Slider is causing my PS to bubble in the corner too). I'm hoping the ifrogz from Buy is better than the one I got off ebay too - the ebay one didn't quite close and it was almost impossible to remove.

Well I did like the Seido case but it was funny because it was my first experience with the screen shield issue. In the store, the clerk wanted to help me with it right away but I said it's fine.

Steinheil is sending a replacement anti-fingerprint as they had sent the incorrect one for the 3GS. So we'll see how the iFrogz goes and the iRibbit ebay version.

Not sure why you have such strong feelings against the logo on the back. It really shouldn't be much of a problem. If it is a concern, you can take part of a screen shield and cover the logo and then put on the case. That's what I've done with the cozip case. I like the blue with the white Apple logo looking through.

As much as I like the Seidio case, there's no way I'm spending $30 right now. I'm just not doing it.

You're right that you can cover the logo with a screen shield, but to me the cutout is still just another way for dust to get into the case. If they would make the case without the cutout, it would be just about perfect. The only other negative thing I can say about the case is that it may have scratched my bezel. That could have been caused by dust though, so I can't definitively blame that on the Innocase. There are plenty of complaints about other cases causes scratches too though, so the Innocase isn't alone there.

I botched the SGP anti-fingerprint film so I'm now on a casemate. But even though I have it on perfectly I have bubble top right that isn't going away.
Then when I switch from a cozip to the iFrogz, I get two more bubbles, small but they are there on both bottom corners.

Casemate used to be perfect for the 2g and 3g. It seems like it's not quite small enough now on the 3gs. I will exchange and then see if cutting a small bit may be necessary.

the order from ebay for the red iRibbit too. Have no idea how good it'll be but it's a popular item. I've seen websites selling this type with the same back rear button all over the place.

But the ebay one is cheap for $3 and it will get here sometime this week from Hong Kong looks like.

Romanesq

Have used the case just a few times and today noticed the tab is broken now on one side.

So it has to go back now for a replacement. Be very, very careful as these tabs are easy to misalign and go kaput.

Luckily the iRibbit via Ebay (and Hong Kong) just came. Very similar and the differences:

1. the plastic on top (colored portion) is a harder polymer. Grip is fine but not as marshmellowy soft as iFrogz.
2. the angle of the tabs ironically go in easier than the iFrogz
3. the button is pretty tight and is harder to break apart or take apart. Pressed a metal tool on the button and bingo, opens.
4. overall tolerances are a bit different. Actually the fit is tighter overall on the iRibbit (ebay $3 version).
5. no felt on the bottom. Doubt this will be an issue.
6. camera hole looks slightly off but there is no blocked view on shooting
7. it feels somewhat more rigid overall. In comparison, it's definitely a harder plastic.
8. the button on the back does have some engagement. To release the iFrogz, the button seemed superfluous.

So for now the $3 iRibbit is in the top position until at least the iFrogz replacement comes. And the cozip in blue is #2.

I'm headed to USC next year as a freshman, what year are you?

And I just got a blue and green case from buy.com (took almost 2 weeks!). I absolutely love it. The blue looks awesome, it's everything a case should be. It slides so easily it's not even funny, no way it'll scratch my phone like the Incase Slider did. Looking at the back of the phone actually makes people interested in it, a plain black bezel doesn't really attract much anymore. And my dad loves the green, he dropped it the day on concrete after I gave it to him and there's no scratch on the case! Best decision I ever made. Now my mom is getting a red case for herself. I plan on using this case for a long time to come.

I've had the same bubbling issue with my iFrogz as well (this was with my Steinheil Anti-Fingerprint - I've since removed the Steinheil anyway though because it was way too blurry). Well I got my PS Crystals today and put one on my 3GS - no bubbling issue whatsoever with the Innocase. The key is to make sure that no part of the screen protector is hanging off the edge of the screen. As long as the screen protector is totally flat on the screen with no overhanging edges, it won't be a problem with the Innocase. I wish I could say the same with the iFrogz Luxe though - I get the bubbles in the bottom corners every time. I don't see any way to avoid the problem other than cutting the screen protector or just going without a screen protector altogether. I'm not interested in either scenario so I'm probably going to just stick with the Innocase.

No. You can obviously use a screen protector as well but that's not necessarily going to keep the screen from shattering. A screen protector should prevent scratches but don't count on it to do much more than that. If you need total protection, look at an Otterbox Defender or something.

Since I have to mail back the blue iFrogz, will probably see the orange one from Hong Kong first. Think the harder polymer would take a fall even better. That stronger lip around the bezel can't hurt either.
