Will a 1G fit in a 2G case perfectly?

Or near perfectly, or will I just have to find somewhere that still sells cheap but decent 1G cases?

Maybe, maybe not. The iPod touch 2G has a rounded back so that may cause some problems with it fitting with the case.

As far as this case goes, the pics don't show a curved back, but the iPod may be loose when you put it in. I'm not sure.

My 2nd gen fits in my 1st gen cases, except for not having a cutout for the volume switches. I don't see why the reverse wouldn' be true.

my friend tried to put a 1G in a 2G case but it was one of those silicone cases and he had to stretch it to get it over the sides and it kept sliding off but the one in the picture looks ok but i'm not 100% sure.
