Just installed SMC Fan Controller, and I noticed that the default value in preferences is 1800 rpm. I have vers 2.2.2 installed. Is 1800 rpm correct, because some people have said 2000 was and should be the default?

When SMC isn't installed it seems 2k is the default.
At least on my 2.0ghz 2k is where it sits when the computer isn't heating up.

I don't see why not. Some people will say 1800rpm uses less power-->longer battery life.
I like to think Apple set the default to 2000rpm for a reason 😉
Lol. Fair enough, I usually don't bother with fan controllers, but with Sims 3 coming, I feel it best to keep it installed so I can bump the fans up during long sessions

I don't think so. With all the MacBook Pro's I've dealt with, 2000 is the default speed. Might be different with the MacBook but I don't see why.

One of the downloads for smcfancontrol 2.2.2 contains an error in the plist file that contains the default fan speeds allowing Macbook5,1 fan to drop to 1800rpm, if you download it from macupdate (that was a month ago mind you that one might be different now) it doesn't contain this error.

i have mine set to 1100rpm, if it gets warmer than 50°C then it will start going up and reaches max fan speed at 65°C. that way, my temps dont get higher than 70°C
Might as well have the fans as slow as possible as long as they are cooling sufficiently
Currently the fan is doing 1108 rpm and cpu temp is 52°C, with safari, mail and Adium open. On my lap so isnt perfect air flow around the laptop
