iOS Custom UITableView

I want my UITableview to have a dark theme. I need to be able to change the cell-border color and the cell's background AND highlighting colors, but have failed miserably in my attempts.
I think my problem lies in the custom cell creation. Can anyone link me to, or give me some code, for creating a dark-celled UITableView w/ custom-color highlighting?
