View Full Version : Trouble with forum header links: the Firefox breadcrumb glitch

If you're in a subforum of the Mac Forums- In this case Mac Forums>Mac Community>Site and Forum Feedback, and you click on Mac Forums, does it click on the image above it (The Macrumors:Forums logo)?
It's like the image is stretched down.
It happens until the end of Mac Community, in this case.
In the iPhone forums, it goes down to iPhone and iPod Touch Forums.

I have Firefox, and it only happens on this laptop (XP).
It also only happens when I'm logged on.
I have Firefox updated all the way. It's Windows XP.

Try starting Firefox in safe mode (http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_mode), which will disable your add-ons and such to see if one of them may be the culprit.

Yeah, I guess one of them does it. But it didn't use to do this ever, now it does it. It started to do it the day I posted that.

Same problem here! No idea which addon is the culprit - disabling them fixes it.

Previously I used to be able to click on the macrumors logo (on the top lefthand side of the page) and it would take me to the main forum index. It's no longer clickable. Are there any plans to change this back?

It should be clickable now. If you're using any kind of "content filtering" mechanism, that may have messed up the iframes and the clickable region maybe in the wrong place ... look to see if it's directly below the logo, approx. below "User CP" and above "Mac Forums." If it's there, this is being caused by your content filtering tool....

That's how it is with me. I run Content Barrier and the clickable hot zone is above the logo area. I never noticed until I read this. I just hit the forums tab. No linking issues anywhere else on the site.

For a week now the forum header link box has been below the actual header, its kinda annoying when trying to navigate around the site. Im also using firefox 3 rc2.

Not sure why this is happening but...
The div that is supposed to float over the MacRumors:Forums logo is too low. For me, when I mouse over the logo, my cursor stays at default, but if I move about 100 pixels down, it changes to the hand and if I click, it takes me to the Forum index. The exact same problem appears on the MacRumors homepage.
The main problem seems to be the CSS:
#logotarget {
position: absolute;
top: 102px;
left: 5px;
}
It looks like top should be 2px or something similar.
Or is it just my browser (Firefox 3 w/ AdBlock)?
Yes, I just tried IE and it looks fine. It must be since that top ad is blocked. Is there anyway to change the logo target so it's not positioned absolutely?

Oops. Looks like I should've searched before I posted as well. Yes, as the people in the other thread said, it's your adblocker, whether AdBlock or some other plug in. However, I think the website should be fluid enough to work around it...

I'm not sure if this is on my comp only but this is what happens when I try to click the hyperlinks on the forum tree. I believe this link is for the top logo on the forum.
any suggestions? :X

Exactly! I had the same issue in Firefox, but not in Safari. You should submit this to a mod and ask them how to fix it

This has been happening to me a lot lately in FF too. Unless you click directly on the link back to the sub-forum, it takes you to the main one instantly. I don't have any kind of ad-blocking software or anything, either.

Okay, I have to specify that this is on PC (Windows 7) but I'm hoping it gets an answer of some sort. I'm noticing that the breadcrumb link trail does not work correctly.
Example:
Mac Forums > Mac Community > Site and Forum Feedback
This is the current breadcrumb trail of links as I see it right now. If I were to click on the "Mac Community" link, the entire set of links (all three) get clicked (dotted box around most) and I'm redirected to the forum root index instead.
Any ideas or other reports on this issue?

First thing I would check would be to disable all of your Firefox addons and see if the problem persists. There are a few addons that I know of that mess up the site.

Well... there's a very frustrating problem with the breadcumb bar at the top. It gets displayed as an image, and therefore it does not work the way it was meant to be. So if I am browsing a thread in the Buying Tips forum, and click Apple Hardware, instead of taking me to the sub-forum, I get to the main page of the forums, which is annoying. Only if you click the part of the link which is outside the picture, I get where I want.

Are you by any chance using Firefox?
If so it is related to a addon/plugin that you are using which messes up the displaying of the page.

Say I'm in PSRI and I want to navigate back to the 'community section, for whatever reason in Firefox I'm taken back to the main mac forums. This does not seem to happen in Safari or other browsers. Does anyone know what the problem is?
I've been having all kinds of display issues with FF 3.5, so it wouldn't surprise me if it was a FF bug.

One of your Firefox plug-ins is causing this. You can disable plug-ins to confirm this. Please use the Contact form if you need more help or information from us.

The forum navigation at the top is marred by the logo link.
Ex: Mac Forums > Mac Community > Site and Forum Feedback
If I try and click on the first 2, it redirects me to the board index. This is because the MR logo in the top has a link. The link, however, stretches beyond the logo.
I'm using Mac OS X and Firefox 3.5.

This is a fairly common problem that people are having with certain addons in Firefox. Try disabling some of your addons.

So I have noticed that when I use FF to view the site the main logo no longer links to the main page, but the hotlink marker is actually lower on the screen and interferes with the forums navigation links. When I use Safari this doesn't happen, but I perfer FF to Safari. Is this a known issue and if so is there a fix in the works?

It's one of your FF addons that's causing the issue, and it has been known for a while and won't be addressed due to its nature.

I'm not sure how recent this problem has been for me, but I've only just noticed it within the past month or so.
Whenever I go into a sub-forum, and read the threads, and then subsequently try to navigate back to the forum via the clickable links here:
http://files.droplr.com/files/33855788/CdMer.Screen%20shot%202010-03-17%20at%2010.38.09%20AM.png
I am lead back to the main page. See the outline around where I had clicked? There seems to be an image, or there used to be a clickable image that would send you back to the main page.
Now, the funny thing is, this only happens to me in Firefox. Not Safari, Opera, or Google Chrome.
Anyone else experiencing this?

So, you click on Mac Forums and it doesn't go there? I haven't seen that problem, if so. I have Firefox, Safari, and IE8.

This only seems to happen on this board:

When I try to click to go back to the sub-forum I am in, like Mac Basics and Help in the image for example, I get that dotted box that you can see. I have to click to the very right, on Help, to go back, otherwise it would take me to the main forum page. Anyone know what the problem would be?

It's an extensions issue. This comes up like once a month. Disable your extensions.

The main link at the top w/ the site icon is supposed to link to the main forums, but for some reason the clickable space is appearing below the image and directly on top of the thread hierarchy as seen below:
226716
If I try clicking on any of the forums in the hierarchy to leave a thread, it takes me all the way to the main forum page.

Hi I have a problem navigating the different parts of the forum in Firefox. The tree structure near the top of the page that shows that I am currently in 'Mac Forums > Mac Community > Site and Forum Feedback' is clickable, but it always take me back to 'forums.macrumors.com'. For instance, if I click on 'Mac Community' to go back to that section of the forum, it's actually a link to forums.macrumors.com. As such, when I've finished viewing a thread, I have to go right back to the main forum page, and back into each individual section manually, which is very frustrating! This issue doesn't happen in IE or Safari.
Any pointers appreciated!
Thanks
Michael.

I have a strange problem with the breadcrumb links at the top of the forum. Here's a screenshot for illustration purposes:
http://i45.tinypic.com/6rk1te.jpg
When I click anywhere within that dotted line surrounding Mac Forums > etc > etc, it takes me to http://forums.macrumors.com. This makes it kind of a pain to navigate. Any thoughts? I'm on Vista, Firefox 3.0.3.
Edit: I just took a look at the page using the handy dandy Firefox Web Developer addon. Seems like it may be an issue with the positioning of the <a> for the logo.

I've been noticing a bunch of these threads recently and I think that this thread could be the one that we refer everyone else to.
The Issue
When using Firefox, users will notice when browsing the forums, the breadcrumb links at the top of the page will look distorted when clicking on the link.
The Fix
To fix this issue, simply disable add-ons in Firefox by going to: Tools>Add-ons and disabling them.
Hopefully this will stop most of these threads.

EDIT: I just realized that if I click the logo, its not a link. Nothing happenes.

Today I've noticed an annoying bug on the MacRumors forum pages. The DIV containing the hyperlink for the forum logo is actually over top the breadcrumb links, causing clicks on the links to send the user back to the forum home page. I inspected the element in Safari, and you can clearly see the misplaced DIV (I also used Firefox and Firebug to make sure it wasn't just a Safari/Webkit issue and was able to duplicate the bug there as well). Here's a screenshot:

I don't know if it has been mentioned already, or if it's only my browser (it shouldn't be I'm on Firefox) but there's an issue with the link at the top of the forums:
