I'm not sure yet, I'll wait until they are released then see what the prices and features are like. I currently have a high-end G4 with SuperDrive and lots of memory, I can probably sell it for quite a lot if a G5 presents itself :)
Edit: Oh yeah, I won't buy a G5 until VPC 7 is out, I need VPC.

I will definitely buy a G5 as soon as they are announced. I waited since the beginning of this year and this month made me really need one. But I can still wait until WWDC, so I really hope I can get a 2.6GHz then.

I voted 'No, not interested' because my dual 800 MHz PowerMac G4 can do everything I want a computer to do. I bought it to edit video and with DV projects it works as promised. If I ever decide to upgrade to uncompressed SD or HD then I would consider a PowerMac G5 but for now DV serves my needs.
Having said that, if and when G5 processors are used in the 12" PowerBook then I will definately start saving for one.

If Apple does an iMac G5 or a Super eMac with a G5, then there is money for Apple coming their way.

I dont have the money to buy one, but if I did I still doubt I would purchase one. I've moved away from desktops to portables, I'm just itching to see a fully loaded 12" PB instead of a crippled less featured one. If there was a 1.5ghz 12" PB out now, id buy one tomorrow.
Having said all that, I desperately want to see a 3Ghz powermac released. I think it will do apple the world of good to be able to say that they truthfully have the fastest desktop out there. Apart from the marketing hype, it will also benefit consumers who are not interested in buying a Powermac because it means they'll be able to put G5's into teh consumer range alot sooner.
all in all i think everyone will benefit from a dual 3Ghz powermac

I voted "No, not interested" because I bought/received the iMac I have now in February 2004 - it's not "marked for replacement" until February 2007.

Unless something unexpected changes, my current Powermac won't get replaced for at least a year. And then I'll buy a G5 system (unless the G6s happen to be out by then).

I'll wait for a G6  iBook to replace my G3 iBook.

Probably. There should be an increase in all tech specs and decrease in prices. I would also consider a 20 or 23" display if there is a new design and prices drop ... mayber even buy the old cinema display's if those prices drop even more.
My 2002 iBook needs an upgrade because I've been using iMovie and would like to start using Final Cut Pro. So a beefy machine would make my life easier. :)

I might purchase a powermac G5 if I can find a buyer for my powerbook. I figure if I can get a good price, why not upgrade to the fastest desktop in the world?

As soon as the new G5's are released I will be buying a top of the range. I have already talked to the owner of the store near me and he has agreed to put money down for me as soon as he gets in that morning.
I have been waiting since Feb.

My guess is like most of you, I've been waiting patiently for the new G5 PM updates; been waiting since the beginning of the year and I must admit my patience is slowly wearing thin. I can wait till WWDC, but I think I'll need to go into therapy :p if they don't announce anything by then.
I wanna spend some money now!!

I voted "no, not nterested" but that's only because there wasn't an option for "would if I could but I can't, no money" :(
But fon't let my vote keep anyone from buying one for me

I spent about 1000$ on Boxing day 2003 buying a 20 inch flat monitor, speakers and a miniDV camera, and since that very day, I've been waiting for the G5s. Of course like everyone i was expecting updates at MWSF, but nooooooo :p
so i'm desperatly waiting

I have been saving my paychecks from job since last summer, as soon as the Rev. B's are released I'm going to buy the middle model, since that one always seems to have the best bang for the buck! I really hope the next revision has better graphics cards!

A new PowerMac would be nice (obviously) but my 1.25 GHz G4 17" iMac still does evrything I ned it to and I have no complaints. I'll probably wait another 2-3 years before buying a new machine, so I'll hold off for a RevB G6 or a RevA G7.

I had to vote not interested, becuase I won't buy a powermac until they release a chassis that's closer to most other comuters. It's just too fricken big.

Come on 3GHz!
Actually, I'll probably buy the one right below the high end, which everyone is assuming will be 3GHz. 2.6 or 2.8GHz would be nice.
My dual 1gig is feeling its age with FCP.

I got a G4 Quicksilver 800Mhz/SP mid 2002 it suits me well, the only reason for a G5 would be its quietness, which is impressive. So I can wait for another 2/3 years and see the machines becoming faster and faster, I am in a comfortable position.

I've been sitting on the $$ to purchase a new Mac for almost 4 months, I just gave up waiting. $2,400 for a new G5 2x2 was too good to ignore. I've got a little buyer's remorse, wondering what I've given up to get the machine now vs a few weeks to months from now.
Overall, best thing I've done. Upgrading from a (then top of the line) Beige G3/333 to a Dual G5 is a life changing experience, anyone that's got a singe CPU system around, or less than 1.25Ghz(estimate) would be nuts not to get a machine now. I click on things and stuff just happens, no drive grinding, no spinning cursor, no staggering windows.
While I have little doubt that SJ will announce 3.2Ghz machines in the near future (to ship soon thereafter), don't know that an extra 50% clock speed boost would make much of a noticeable difference to me on top of the 20x speed improvement I'm now experiencing.

Iam waiting also, G5 Imac? or a G5 Powermac? ill just wait and see what they do. a G5 powermac may be a little overkill for me as a consumer but Powermacs have so many advantages over the all in one. My 1.47 G4 quicksilver is still doing well but after 3 years iam ready for a new machine. Anyways iam waiting for a G5 machine and plan on ordering right after WWDC. G4s just dont have the power for high performance gaming and i sure as heck aint getting a PC. Bring on the new G5s!

Waiting for updated G5 tower model and updated Xserves. The Xserves may not contain updated processors but I am hoping they will have more storage for the same price point on the RAID systems.

my machine has been up for replacement for quite a long time - and with this release, it's finally TIME. Even though I've used a few of the current-model G5's in the stores, I'm not completely sure I'm ready for the jump in speed/power that I'll get going from my g3/300 to a dual mid-range G5. Needless to say, I'm getting antsy. But I've made it this long - another month or so (or probably more, knowing them) won't kill me.

Sadly, no, since it was the end of the budget year, I had $60,000 to spend for my lab, so I just bought 24 1.6s and 17" displays. Ack. By the time they are up and the students have access, the new ones will be out. ACK!

I voted no, because I bought a dual 867mhz MDD g4 in february 2003 and it is still working like a charm. It does everything I need a (mac) computer to do: MS office, internet, iMovie, unreal tournament, maple 9, and mathematica 5 (gotta keep a PC around to run altera, topspice, electronics workbench, matlab, and scientific notebook).
Probably won't be in the market for a new mac for at least another year or two. Maybe when Mac OS XI is released ;)

My eyes are much bigger than my wallet. I'd love to have a G5, but I need a second Mac (not my main workhorse) so I'll probably just buy an eMac. On the other hand, when I outgrow my Power Mac G4...

I'm a student so I obviously can only dream of a a PowerMac G5. I love the look of them, but then my PowerBook 12" killed my budget late last year and I love it for all its ability and portability.
And my parents are sticking to cheap Dells.

I said no because I'm hoping to get a Powerbook by the end of the year. But I'm waiting for 10.4 to come out this Fall and for it to start shipping on systems. I resolved to move to OSX this year for my New Year's resolution.
I'm also hoping for a Powerbook update to happen first. I'm not cracked out enough to expect G5. I'm thinking a 1.5Ghz G4. A 12" with 512MB of RAM standard and an 80GB HD starting out. I also want a better graphics card. Is there a portable version of the GForce 5950?

Well, I'd like one *hint hint, buy me one fellow posters ;) * but my current iMac is only a year old.
*sigh* 1 Ghz and a year old, I wish I knew of the buyers guide and this website a year ago. MY machine is going to look very sad if they do G5 iMacs. Oh well, 2-3 more years then I'll get something better.

I voted yes, but my critical buying criteria will be updated displays.
Yes, I want to feel comfortable that the "bump" is a significant one, but whatever Apple shows us, I'm waiting until updated Displays come out. (And of course, matching keyboards.)

There's only one problem with that idea - at this point, if the 12" were upgraded to the specs you mention, the 15" and 17" models would have no further room to grow. First, there aren't any G4 processors available that are faster than 1.5 GHz, which is what the other two PowerBooks use (the 15" has a choice of 1.33 GHz or 1.5 GHz). Second, 80 GB is the largest mobile hard drive size available at this point - again, that leaves the 15" and 17" models with no options. Finally, the best mobile graphics card NVIDIA offers right now is the GeForce FX Go5700, which is better than the GeForce Go5200 that the 12" PowerBook uses right now. However, ATI's best mobile graphics card right now is the Mobility Radeon 9700 - that's what the 15" and 17" PowerBooks use right now, so they can't really go anywhere.

I'll be ordering one of these new G5s as soon as they are announced. I will probably pick the mid-end model in the end as its always the most reasonably priced. I really hope that the have PCI-Express rather than PCI-X though. I also wouldn't mind one of these ATI Fire graphics cards ;-)

Why should the 12" be forced to have a worse processor than the other two models? "Not leaving them room" is not a valid excuse - it should be across the board... So you can have a 1.0, 1.33 or 1.5GHz in all three computers...!

I think all of us would like to see that...except Apple! Apple wants to distinguish its products from each other as well as its product lines from each other - that is why the specifications for the 12" PowerBook are weaker than those of the 15" and 17" models.

My buddy is in the same boat. He actually just wants a Dual 2.0 GHz no matter what is released @ WWDC! But, he doesn't want to pay a premium for year-old technology when he knows he can get a good deal on a refrurb once the updates are announced. He just can't justify paying full price right now for a year-old machine, whihc is fair enough.
He's adamant that all he wants is a good deal on the 2.0 GHz, but I betcha he thinks twice once the updates are announced at WWDC, depending on what all is introduced for hardware advancements and G5 speeds. ;)

i too am sitting waiting for the first revision before plopping down the cash. only Q is weather to get dual 1.8's or something from the revision. prices will drop and i rekon that dual 1.8's with a big slug of RAM ought to suffice for my needs.
currently creeping/creaking along with seriously crappy windoze boxes i inherited with the business, have finally gotten into position to upgrade the technology and am prepared to wait until wwdc before laying out the cash.
on the plus side as far as the runour mills go, some of the apple centres in sydney are selling their "ex-demonstrator" G5's. ;)
