Enjoy the holiday!
Canada must be nice and cool during summer.
Hope you all have a good day!
I was only in Canada once for the celebration, it was a long time ago in Ft. McCleod, Alberta. Lots of mounties on horseback, candy floss, beer, dust and generally a good time for all.

As an American I think Canada is the cutest thing (jk), I'd love to move to Vancouver but I'm afraid I have nothing to contribute. Seriously though, I am jealous of the healthcare and other things you have over us.;) Have a great day!:)

Happy Canada Day from sunny Los Angeles!
I'm going to bbq some meat and vegetables, listen to some Sam Roberts Band, Joel Plaskett Emergency, and The New Pornographers, and hang a Canadian flag over my balcony in celebration.
Oh yeah. Beer. And drink some beer.
Isn't it fitting that the first day of NHL free agency is on the same day as Canada Day? :D
I miss you T-Dot.....

Eat bagels, listen to alternative rock, apologise for no reason, eat doughnuts, stroke a beaver, smoke some meat, enjoy not being Americans, talk about portaging, and grow facial hair.

I'll talk about portaging! Ever done the Dixon in Algonquin? That was a he'll of an experience. 5 km with a canoe on my back!
Ah......…

I don't remember, although if I did, I'm sure I'd remember!!
The longest I normally do are like the 2 km ones, but difficulty really depends on whether there are hills involved. I think I've done a 3 km portage, but there was no massive incline, so it was only "very difficult" rather than "impossibly difficult". :p
I just went on a hike through Killarney. In terms of horizontal distance, it wasn't much. However, Killarney is far worse than anything Algonquin could offer. :( It's all hills, and the entire thing is rock.

Awesome. I haven't been to Kilarney, and now that I've moved to Cali, I doubt I'll ever make it there.
I haven't been to Algonquin in years. I went on some amazing canoe trips through that park.
There is some good hiking around here though. I'm thinking of taking a trip to Joshua Tree in the fall for a couple of days of hiking. Plus, there are a few places around LA (within 20 minutes from me) that are good for a couple of hours of hiking (Runyon Canyon, Temescal, Topanga).

Duff-Man says...nothing special yesterday aside from a few messages to/from my ol' Canadian friends. It's a holiday weekend down here of course and we're heading up to southeast Utah and the Natural Bridges park, then over to Colorado and the Mesa Verde park - both excellent places for photography...I might pack a little Stompin' Tom cd for the drive - that'd be good...oh yeah!

That's great. I went portaging in Algonquin 6 years ago, but I haven't been there since because this is actually the first time I've lived in Canada since then. ;) I may be moving out soon, so I'll have to enjoy Toronto for as long as I can while I'm still here. :)
Oh, for Canada Day: We went to the free Constantines concert at the Harbourfront Centre, which took place at 9:30 PM. Before that, we were hanging out in the area, which has been completely re-done. It's quite a fantastic place to go now. :)
We also went to the distillery district, where all the breweries and artists are. :) Most things were closed though, so we just ate food, walked around, sat outside at a patio bar beside the lake, and chatted a lot with my friends.

Free Constantines show? Nice, they're solid.
I'm trying to go see The New Pornographers and Tegan and Sarah this Sunday at the Hollywood Bowl (they're opening for Death Cab For Cutie.... I don't care about them though), but the show is sold out. I'm going to keep trying to get tickets though.
I haven't been to Harbourfront Centre in a couple of years.... have they redone it since then? Or are you talking about the wood boardwalk on the lake with the outdoor restaurants, the little amphitheatre, the area with ethnic food behind it, and the ponds with kiddie rides? We used to go blading there and we've rented bikes there as well.
The Distillery District is awesome, but it has weird hours.
Check out the Bier Market and Fionn McCool's on the Esplanade, two fun places.
Sounds like you had a great Canada Day! I did what I said I would do- bbqed, beer, and flag over the balcony.
I'm looking forward to the 4th, should be fun here.

Haha, yes, that's it. It's new to me though. :D
When I left, there was no Dundas Square, Dundas in general was in shambles, and the Harbourfront was a bit of an embarrassment, considering how it should be prime real estate. I used to take the bus from Toronto to Hamilton (I went to Mac), and from the bus, all we'd see near Skydome (or "Rogers Centre"?) was a lot of empty land, and old rusty CN Rail crap littered about. That was up until 2003 though.
Anyway, it was great to see the city look so much better. The Constantines played for over 90 minutes, and then there were some awful fireworks. :) Then I followed up the concert with a sausage. Mmmmm.....street meat.

Car show, BBQ hamburger for lunch, watch the cannons and skydiver at noon (it's a local thing). Listen to CBC (R3 seems to have taken over R1 today). Local beer later.
I love the fact that Abstact and Surely actually got a portage conversation going on a tech site. Way to go, eh?.

For the non-Canadians who may be browsing this thread.... here is a link to the webcam (http://www.collineduparlement-parliamenthill.gc.ca/text/camera-eng.html) that shows Parliament Buildings in Ottawa. The lawn in front has become a place for Canadians to celebrate (and mourn) events of national importance. CBC is reporting 70,000 people there today.
For today they have set up a large stage right in front, where there will be live music playing all day. The Queen will make an appearance at some point (This is her 7th Canada Day in Canada - Long Live the Queen!)... note the red carpet.
If you look at either side, you can see the white that is the last of the winter snow that is just about done melting off of the tulip beds. ;)
Happy Canada Day....
