For those who have got purplera1n & cydia working post the apps that work flawlessly on the 3GS 3.0.

so far i've tested:

Phone: 3GS 3.0
Cydia: Does load a lot faster on the 3GS as to be expected (than 3G). I'd estimate about 10-12 secs to finish loading.

Categories and SBS (like you) from BigBoss.
SSH so far
GPSphone 5.5.0

anyone know a way to connect to the phone and mount it in OSX without this? Possibly AFP?

You mean for SSH? If not, which? I got SSH running pretty easily through Windows XP SP3.

Mine gives an error.. something about a stream unexpectedly ended or whatever.

I installed SSH through Cydia and it installed fine. I couldn't tell though since there's no way I could see it was installed. I just made sure in SBSettings that SSH was switched to on.

Then I used WinSCP like I did on 3G to sign in. I restarted my phone first (always help if anything), then I logged in (make sure the IP is right). It took like 20+ secs. If it says 15 secs then abort, just wait and it will find the key then you just hit copy (again this is with WinSCP).

edit: I just installed GPSphone and had to SSH a rom into the phone and it worked fine. Tested FFVI Advance and it runs at 62 frames with sound on.

cyberduck and winscp.. cyberduck gives unexpected stream error and winscp just gives cannont initialize stfp protocol.

Any other way to connect to the phone?

Ah ok, I've been using WinSCP on Windows XP SP3. I know that works for sure. Give me a minute and I can go to my macbook and try Cyberduck.

Used the same one, but I tried with Cyberduck and got the same error. Do you have Windows XP desktop or a dual boot? Use WinSCP.

This method worked great on my 3GS but I do have two questions. Do I still need to go through a DFU restore and a normal restore to get the files that iTunes puts in the /tmp folder and if I don't will that keep me from being about to jailbreak 3.1?

I'm lost. You mean for the iBEC and iBSS? If you already done that, then you should still have it in a folder that's separate.

File protocol should be set to SCP instead of the defaul SFTP

Ditch Cyberduck and get DiskAid 3.0 (it's free for MAC). Works like a charm for the MAC to SSH. Didn't know why I never thought of this before. I don't think it actually SSH's in, it sees the hard drive off the back.

snapture works great... they have updated to 3.0 for 3.0 firmware!
ive got the premium and im loving it!

Mine stopped working a few min after I installed it yesterday. Today I opened Cydia and there was an update for WeatherIcon. After I installed the update mine started working again. :D

So apparently Spotlight can't see any apps that are hidden or are in Categories folders, but I stumbled on the solution... SpotBright!
Its on the BigBoss repo and works like a freakin charm, it basically combines the best parts of Spotlight and Quickgold! It saves your most frequent searches and can look inside Categories folders/hidden apps. I was stoked to find this app and am surprised more people haven't been talking about it, it keeps Spotlight relevant on a jailbroken iphone. :D

Thanks a ton, I almost deleted categories for this very reason but I'm downloading spotbright right now...(EDIT: AND IT WORKS PERFECTLY!!!!)

now if only there was a way to clean up the updates from the app store on apps that are in categories folders. The installing bar always freezes up and I have to reboot. Anyone running into the same problem?

FYI: I emailed Snapture and they said they are working on an update that will work with the 3GS but do not have an estimated release date.

I was able to get Winterboard to work on my 3GS by doing this...

Install SBSettings first.
When you install Winterboard and Cydia prompts you with the button to "Reboot Device", DO NOT DO IT. Mine crashed twice before I figured this out.
Instead simply exit out of Cydia, and use SBSettings to respring, and you should be good to go.
