I use it often as a place to store small bits of code and other things i want to remember. Like how much money someone borrowed :)

I use it to take down messages/phone numbers when checking my voicemail!

I don't really have a use or need for Stickies, so I voted no...but it's nice to know it's there, in case I do need it in the future. I never used the Mac OS 9 version of Stickies, either.

I used to use Stickies all the time to save random bits of text (instead of text clippings, for example), reminders of things I need to do, lists of things (movies, books) I want to remember to check out at some point. I once had a sticky that was around 3 years old, maybe older. Now, with Mac OS X, my usage habits have changed a bit and I don't see the desktop + Stickies as much anymore. But I still use them fairly regularly. I just wish there was anything nearly as elegant for Windoze, for use at work. The only similar programs I've seen have hideous control buttons, scrollbars, and toolbars everywhere. :(

I've started using them all the time recently, since I got "iPod It" and that application synchronizes my stickies into my iPod's notes folder automatically.

I use it to keep a running todo list, list of songs/albums to buy, stuff I need to get at the grocery store, ideas for stories and articles, and other informal notes. I used to do all this in PalmOS memos, but my old Handspring doesn't see much use now that I have the iPod and I never liked starting up Palm Desktop on my PowerMac just for the memos (everything else syncs with Address Book & iCal).

For a while I was using the Jaguar stickies.app (which ran fine in Panther) because the Panther one had an annoying bug where miniaturized stickies wouldn't remember where they were on restarting the app. That's fixed with 10.3.4.

I think that Stickies has a lot of potential, but Apple needs to update it and better integrate it with the other PDA-ish applications. Stickies should sync into the iPod notes and Palm Memos! What an obvious oversight!

A better system for handling todos (from iCal) in the iPod would be nice too... like, most importantly, the ability to check something as "completed" from the iPod and more logical categorization and prioritization... but that's for another thread ;-)

All the time. One of those deceptively simple yet useful apps. I use TextEdit for heavy-duty note-keeping, and Clippings for lots of other things. Yet I keep finding myself using Stickies too. (Don't forget, you can just drag and drop text into a sticky, or use Services.)

What I DON'T use it for is the purpose it was probably made for... reminders :) I like that you can float a note (even make it transparent) but I never seem to do so. Reminder items just sit on my desktop as clippings or named folders instead.

I use it all the time. When I was running Eudora under Windows (and under Wine when I was a Linux user), I used to keep a text file open in the back of the Eudora window for misc. notes. Now I use Stickies.

Current Stickies:
List of things I've ordered by mail/online, when I ordered, when they ship.
Misc. To-do List
List of songs to go find on iTunes when I have time
List of unwatched DVDs
List of bills for the month and when they are due

I had to vote no, since I don't (can't) use it anymore. I used to use the Stickies occasionally, but after the 10.3.4 update the app hasn't worked anymore. When launching it it almost freezes the whole system (activity monitor shows it's taking loads of memory.. from 500mbs to even 1500mb's) and then crashes. I reported it to apple.. seems like i'm the only one having the problem :P

I use stickies regularly just for jotting down things i need to do. I have one floating window always open on the top right corner of my screen, and have disabled the dock icon for the Stickies.app so that it doesn't take up any dock space. It almost acts like a drawer that i can drag and drop text or images into.

Now that it WORKS AGAIN! It only took 3 revs of the OS to fix a silly problem where the stickies wouldn't retain their positions and end up overlapping each other.

I don't really use stickies anymore, at one time I used them though. I wish I could place stickies on certain finder windows or somehow sticky an app. Someone told me the new Sun Desktop OS is going to have a feature like this.

yes, for short gift lists, to copy text to just to print out from a web page instead of printing out the entire web page text and or pictures, etc.

I love stickies for writing little notes!

I only wish I could use it to send and receive notes to and from my cell phone via BlueTooth. How cool would that be?

I also use Windows XP at home, so I looked for a Win alternative, and the best thing I found was a little app called Momento. The only drawback to Momento is that you can't change the font. But you can minimize notes into the Task Bar icon, which is nice.

It's always open.

I use them for reminders and goals. I keep a list of movies I want to see, etc.

But then I minimize all the notes and push them to the top of the screen because they kind of ugly up the desktop when they're open.

I'm really glad notes finally stay in place.

i never use it in OSX, but back in school we used them constantly in the Journalism dept., on the Performa's running System 7. 10 people and only 6 computers, so if you needed a particular machine at a certain time and wanted to make sure it was free... you could put dib's on it with a stickie.
"This Mac is Adam's from 4PM-6PM, resistance is futile.", for instance.

Stickies are cool for saving website address. Much better than having them all over your desktop

Oh, and a cool tip I just came across is the ability to drag an image or a PDF onto a sticky note to view it :D

I personally don't, but if I was to wander through our offices, there's a LOT of Mac users out there who have them open permanently (as Startup/Login Items).

There's probably a personality type which results in a person being more likely to use Stickies.

And for me, I rarely use Stickies. But I'm curious because I can't think of any way to do it through the Finder.

So do you keep these stickes saved?

I use the Stickies app, but not nearly to the point that some of you are using it. I use it if I have something to pick up, or if I have to call someone, and just leave that sticky on my desktop. I keep it up front all the time so that its always staring me in the face, even as I'm browsing the net, writing a Word doc, or any other task. That way, I can't forget.

When I'm done with it, I delete it. I don't keep info on it like passwords, nor do I save.

I rarely use them. I use MacJournal instead to store notes because I can organize them the way I want. With stickies...well they're like yellow stickies, they start piling up all over the place. Plus, I think they should be a lot eaiser to access. Anyway, my 2 cents.

i don't really use it.

for text that i want to save, just use TextEdit. mostly Services>Make new containing selection.

but i might start using stickies.... if there's ever a need. i've just got to remember shift+cmd+y - with text highlighted it makes a new stickie containing the text. :) could be useful.

most 'to-do' items i just put in iCal, so i can have a reminder for them as well.

I use mine frequently but usually not for important stuff. Most of the time I just paste interesting quotes from articles I read or something funny someone said to me in an IM so I can laugh at it later.

There's an app called Dockless, search versiontracker or macupdate for it.
I use it so my father doesn't know the terminal is open, so hes always folding, even though he doesn't know it.

I didn't think I'd used Stickies in at least a year. I launched it just now to see if it looked any different under Mac OS X 10.3.4 and discovered a Stickie from 2 months ago. I'd noted some model numbers while shopping for furniture online and completely forgotten about it!

I never used stickies in 9 and I don't use it in X. I do, however, miss Notepad and Scrapbook.

....I used to use the Stickies occasionally, but after the 10.3.4 update the app hasn't worked anymore.

Hello
First post. I'm a long time Mac user and I really like Stickies. I came to depend on them to keep me organised. Mine stopped behaving after 10.3 months ago. I could create a new Sticky but couldn't write in it. Lately I just want it back cause I haven't found anything else quite as convenient. Bits of paper all over my desk and notes in my diary are too hard to keep referring to and updating.

So amidst growing desk mayhem I am now out there looking for a solution- and here I am.
