I am too cheap to pay for texting so I set up a push mail account to act as a portal for friends to text me. They all understand to text me there instead of my number so that is working fine.

My complaint is with the mail app. Is there an alternative or a way to route my emails to a messaging app? I am using the purplera1n jailbreak on a 3GS.

Main complaints:

-I have to delete the quoted text... Is there a way to turn off quoted text?
-No character count
-Not organized in conversations like messaging app (less important)

Thanks for any suggestions :)

Why not use a texting app on the iPhone?

Textfree Lite (http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=305928665&mt=8)

TextFree Unlimited (http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=305925151&mt=8)

Is there one that checks an email address? I don't want to use TextFree and the such because their servers can be slow.

+1 on textfree

Been using since 2.2.1 and it was always acceptable.

With 3.0 you get push and an address that people can text/email to you directly instead of relying on replies. A great app for a cheap price.

I have seen issues with Text Free's servers taking a long time to receive texts...

There are no solutions that combine everything into one app?
