Those APIs allow you to select and record videos like you can select and record pictures.

More direct access to the camera would be nice. It would help augmented reality developers and developers of apps which add effects to photographs. Admittedly, I haven't used these types of apps for a while, but I don't believe the workflow has been able to change beyond the snap-process-resnap system of before.

Apps already have the ability to use live video via the iPhone camera, Look at the app Email 'n Walk for example. It allows you to see what is in front of the iPhone using the built-in camera while you are typing an email, in theory this might help you be more "mobile" while emailing. While it is cool to look at I will admit that I have not really used that app. Unless I am mistaken this is live video via the iPhone's camera. its definitely not the "snap-process-resnap system of before," but please correct me if I am wrong.

Live video isn't documented in the SDK :)
