I am going to check it out.

I'm glad its only Direct Messages and Mentions. I would not want an update everytime someone update their status. DM and Mentions is perfect.

Between iTwitter users though? Does that mean you both have to be using the app?!

Lol, dang, thats what that mean. I knew it had to be a catch. I don't have an iPhone yet, so I can't test it.

I wonder why its only between itwitter users?? How useless is that!

I'm dying for a twitter client to push @replies and Dm's.

This is really nicely setup, its almost perfect. A few things i would like to see is

-local search within a selected amount of miles
-a few different themes, at least one dark (their outer space theme before with iconnect looked cool, and add friends to the sidebar was cool too)
-display real or user names
-shorten links
-sound options, i dont care how silly it is i like to hear chirps when it updates like twitterriffic
-make a little better looking icon
-after load/reading new tweets they should be marked as read automaticly
-option to goto 1st unread tweet
-PUSH for all @replies and DMs not just itwitter

I think all of that should be pretty simple to implement, most other apps already can.

It has been 3 hours since I installed it and I haven't received any notifications

Yes, push is on and I've received tons of updates when I open the app....but push is still not notifying me...I don't see a settings tab or anything else, so maybe I haven't setup individual notifications or something?

It appears for the push to work, that the replies and mentions need to have been made using iTwitter. Is that how you tested it?

Not bad for a freebie. I like that it has multiple acct support, tweets & links can be read in landscape. I like the way reply/RT/favorite menu & user info comes up. Though I can see how it might be clutterish to some. And if you have larger fingers, it could be a problem. It's really nice that you can rearrange the home page. And for those who use it, client side grouping.

Some cons:
* The bottom dock menu is better like on Tweetie. iTwitter, you have to back out to the home page.
* No trends
* No option for pic service, only TwitPic
* Weird that push is only for other iTwitter users, maybe a ploy to get more people to use it?
* doesn't load at last read tweet, but mark all as read.
* Own tweets aren't in a different color.

More later when I've had a chance to play with it a bit...

Check out IM+. It does what you want, plus you get an IM program too. You can tweet and IM at the same time.

All these reasons is why I still prefer Twitterific Premium. iTwitter is a great free one, though and the push notifications are damned fast. It's the best free one I've used, though.

Believe me I was heavily considering it but i already bought beejive. I can't see spending another $10 on an IM app. I have spoken with some IM+ users and they say the push is working just fine, might be a few disconnects but then again beejive just had to update for the same reason. IM+ could be gaining a lot of ground on beejive. Also the reason why beejive is still $9.99 even after the push sale. I also think that multi-social apps are the future :)

I have been using itwitter since it was iconnect, i think they were the 1st landscape mode for a twitter client. Once they fill in the blanks with the missing features it will be a fantastic twitter app.

Agreed. I still love Tweetie though I'm experiencing some weird bug that's effecting only 2% of the users..app crashes when I post a pic. Once this is fixed & push is enabled, I'll be uber happy.

I push confirmed to be on the way ?

On iTwitter; why on earth did they think it would be a good idea to make it only push messages from other iTwitter users ? Madness.

I don't think so, unless Twitter support it on their end. Loren is gonna set up his own servers, it's all too messy. It would end up a bit like this app. He likes to keep things elegant so...

It's certainly possible. IM+ does it and SimplyTweet will offer it in their version 2.0 apparently: http://twitter.com/theiBlog/status/2500732493

I'm presuming that IM+ run their own servers, and I doubt that's something Loren will do. I'd love to be proved wrong though :D

Hmm, not sure about Simply Tweet. Is it possible to have push notifications without running servers...?

Yeah, I'd love to know how apps are doing push Twitter. Like I say, SimplyTweet are going to do it, and they don't seem a huge company to be honest.

Fingers crossed !

Yeah, if they can do it then hopefully Loren will do it to. Push for mentions and DMs would be unreal.

It will be very expensive to run what you're asking for. The iTwitter folks would have to have a server that monitors ALL their users tweets ALL the time to analyze them and decide which ones to push to Apple's servers.

I'm not sure how the other companies who are promising it are gonna do it, honestly. Lots of ads in the program, I guess? However it is, apparently the iTwitter people didn't have the ability to pull it off.

It's something everyone wants so I'm sure all the devs are trying to find a way to make it work. I think Loren has it on the To Do list of things to add for a future version. But confirmed...no. No one is confirming it at this point. Currently, I just have it set to send me an SMS when I get a DM. Works OK so far :)

So other people would download it, try it, and like it and keep it. Pulls customers away from other twitter clients.

I beta test SimplyTweet, and push is working very well. When 2.0 hits the app store, i think it will be a hit among twitter users.

I'll second this. And the fact the the developer just added badges to the notifications available in the latest beta really makes a difference for me.

I'm just hoping he changes the sounds.
