View Full Version : Any Summer Concerts or Music Festivals?

Abstract

There's nothing better than going to an outdoor concert or music festival in the summer. You plan on going to any? Lollapalooza is coming up in July through August. Decent lineup of artists, too. Flaming Lips, Modest Mouse, Morrissey, Wilco, Gomez, Michael Franti and Spearhead, The Polyphonic Spree, PJ Harvey, The String Cheese Incident, and quite a few more.

Anything else?

I'm thinking of going to the crossroads guitar festival here in Dallas. Clapton, BB King, Jimmy Vaughan, Robert Randolph and quite a few others will be there...

You said "European" concerts! :p Lots of other music festivals out there.

Sorry, I didn't see your thread from last week. So I guess we now have 5 posts between both threads. Yay!

I can't stand summer festivals. They just jam a bunch of it bands on one venue, give them limited play time and show it on mtv. Anyways, by far (in my opinion) Bows + Arrows by the Walkmen was the best album of 2004 (listen here (http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewAlbum?playlistId=5305635)). By best, I mean really amazingly crazy good. Anyways, I forget where I was going with this... Oh yeah, they're on crapapalooza, but they're playing some dates by themselves on off days, so check them out if you hate corporate festivals like me, but love the walkmen. Also Franz Ferdinand is touring, so that should be good. Muse is too, but I think later this summer its with the cure, interpol (hate those idiots) and the rapture, which means overpriced tickets. Who else...? I think Badly Drawn Boy will tour for his new album, should be good. Squarepusher has been out and about lately. Maybe Mogwai? Neil Young is always possible. The Greendale tour was so-so though, plus you get the typical drunken hillbilly there who loves 'classic rock' but seems to miss the point that Neil Young makes protest music.

Bow's And Arrows is good, not great. The Walkmen's first album was much better....

Anyway, its a good way to hear bits and pieces of many bands, some of which you wouldn't know. I would like it if someone walked away from the festival liking The Walkmen, or hell, even Danger Mouse, who I heard was supposed to be there, but isn't on the list.

I forgot to mention, how will you be attending lollapolooza from new south wales? I haven't looked into it, so with the risk of sounding ignorant I didn't think the festival was going through australia. Are you in the states right now, or coming to? Just curious.
