Well im finally getting my 2.8GHZ MBP!!!

But there is only one thing left to figure out.

Which Windows OS is the best for running games, XP, Vista or Windows 7 (I know its in testing atm)

To help you all heres an example of games i like to run

WoW (Can run it on mac anyways so meh)

Medieval Total War 2

Sims 3

Lord of the rings online (Direct X10 can only be used on Vista)

Doom 3

Load of old games like Thief (1 2 and 3).

The only reason i want a Windows OS is for all the windows only games i got. Was gonna run it through boot camp.

XP for sure because you don't really think that Windows 7 and your games will play nicely together do you? At least not right out of the box I'd imagine.

+ for XP regardless of what you are going to do. however, as you mentioned old games, then 100% xp.

Windows 7 RC 64 bit is free right now, so it doesn't hurt to try it

As has Vista. In fact, I would say that Vista is more stable for gaming than XP. If the drivers crash in Vista, the whole OS is less likely to crash. In XP, forget about it. It's a goner.

In Vista, thanks to WDDM, you can play games in a window without any performance hit. In XP, unless you jacked the resolution way down, you would suffer a performance hit.

Archernick, would you buy Mac OS X 10.1 and install it on your Mac (assuming you could)? I wouldn't. Out with old, in with the new. If you want, install Windows 7 RC. You can get it for free from MS and it's going to go on sale October 22nd.

Alternatively, you can right now, Purchase an OEM copy of Windows Vista off of Newegg and get a free upgrade to Windows 7 when it comes out.

Alternatively, you can pre-order Windows 7 Upgrade now for 49 bucks for Windows 7 Home Premium (99 bucks for Professional). You can then use the upgrade trick to do a full install by first installing Windows 7 without a product key, then you load up the installation again and do an upgrade. It will detect the previous install and "upgrade" it. This is the method that XP users may have to do.

Hmmmm well im just wondering if Windows 7 is gonna have the same issues as Vista when released. The only downside of XP is not having Direct X 10. Where as Vista and some reports of Windows 7 (But yet again we all know its not even ready yet) says it can't handle some old games, aswell as unknown driver support for Windows 7.

Basicly i have two options.

Buy Windows XP, never find out what Direct X 10 is like and continue down my road.

Buy Vista, see the light of Direct X 10 (And the probable drop in FPS as-well) and upgrade to Windows 7 later on.

An easy way to figure this out is to ask, Will Vista eat up my MackBook Pro with

2.8GHZ
4 GB Ram
Nvidia 9400M and - Dedicated 9600M - (Which has 512MB)
500GB HDD

And at the same time will it consume the lot while playing games

The RC is out and anyone can try it.

Since so many people already have tried it,
the biggest issues are likely already known about.

If you want to wonder, wonder about Snow Leopard :)
