View Full Version : MY iPOD FELL IN THE TOILET
methodshop

MethodShop.com (http://www.methodshop.com/mp3/) offers free iPod tech support online. Every once in awhile we'll get a really good question like this one....
"I know this was stupid of me, but i never thought it could happen. About 3 days ago, i was listening to my ipod (1st gen, 5gb) whilst brushing my teeth. I held the ipod and was selecting a song to put on, however if fell from my hand, and just happened to land into the toilet. I grabbed it out of there as soon as i could, which was about 1 second. i immediately dried it with a towel, but also shook it alot to get water from the inside out of it. It wasnt working, but i pressed reset (pause and menu together) and there was a very faint low battery sign. I plugged it in for recharge but there was no response, and i continued to try and get it working but to no avail..." ~ hsloyal
We told him to send it out to get fixed (http://www.methodshop.com/mp3/vip-contact.stm).

Wouldn't this considered to be spam?
(altho, an iPod falling into the toilet is pretty funny. "I was taking a dump and was litening to my iPod, and I wanted to change the song, but is 'slipped' and fell into the crapper. Since there is water in the toilet, I tryed to dry it off in the microwave, now when I try to turn it on, nothing happens. Appel should make their products more damage resistant; this is obviously a bad product, made with bad parts. What should I do?? HELP ME!!!")

we get tons of these weird "ipod help questions".
here's another person who tossed their iPod in the washing machine (http://www.methodshop.com/mp3/articles/iPodSupport.stm#wash).
"Hi, My son's iPod barely survived a run through the washer. After drying, it continued to work for a few days, although some songs weren't accessible. Finally, however, the screen began to display the folder alert and now does nothing else. Can you tell from this description about how much a repair would cost? The model is 10gb without the play buttons across the top. Thanks!" ~ frichmond

Yes, seems this poster clearly cannot help but advertise for his business with nearly every post.
However, if he's willing so submit some stories about people dropping their toilet/washing machine on their iPod -- I might tune in.

iPod, now available in enamel white to match all your other hardware. :D I guess the big question is, could you actually use it after it gets fixed, knowing where its been? Reminds me of the Seinfeld where his belt buckle touches the urinal. :)

Well when you ship it Apple to get it fixed they just ship you a different one and use yours for parts. Not sure what they do about engraved ones.

methodshop, glad to hear it wasn't your iPod. i was worrying that i wouldn't be able to laugh and make fun about it. but since it's not.... LOL! :D that's good stuff!
and he went straight into the toilet to get it out. :D wow, he loves his iPod so much he's wiling to contract some disease just to try and get it working again. :D
aahhhh.. the stupid things people do. reminds me of the story of some woman putting her hand in a microwave that didn't have a door and then turning it on. :D

That means that someone else gets your toilet water! EWWWWW :( Hopefully I won't need more than a new battery for mine. :)
Strange thing was, when I pulled it out of the toilet, it worked absolutely fine. But for some strange reason, it makes a flushing sound when I turn it on or off and I feel compelled to put a lid on it after I use it to be polite to the next user. :D

We keep getting emails from people who drop their iPods in the toilet (http://www.methodshop.com/mp3/articles/iPodSupport.stm#toilet). i guess this is a common ipod problem. it's almost an epidemic!
Here's a lame animated GIF reenactment:
http://methodshop.com/mp3/images/ToiletPod.gif
"Oops! I dropped my iPod in the toilet. It was in there for about a second or less. Ever since then, I've been able to play music sporadically, but it will no longer sync from the computer... Can my iPod be repaired??" ~ Marianna

Ya... I think you should rework that animation on a clean toilet. If you so desperately need the animation. I closed the window pretty quick.

i just checked out the link (http://methodshop.com/mp3/articles/iPodSupport.stm#toilet) again. here's another sad toilet story:
"I have kind of a weird problem. I was listening to my iPod while in the bathroom (don't ask), and when I stood up to take care of things, my iPod belt clip hit the toilet paper roll holder and fell in. I was very angry and then devistated. I don't want to go into detail but I stayed home from my summer job due to bad seafood from a sweet 16 party the night before. Luckily no one was home, so I ran down the hallway and used my little brother's goldfish net to fish it out of the toilet. I then used my anti-bacterial lotion and cleaned it off. But my iPod doesn't work at all anymore!! The screen is just blank no matter how long I charge it. I'm so embarassed I can't tell my parents. I have to fix this soon before they ask why I'm not using my iPod anymore. I think I want to fix it, sell it and get a new one. I don't want to really touch it any more. Please help me! What should I do?"
the poor girl. i just made my dad read it. he has tears in his eyes. :o

I think this would have struck me as more funny and less spam-like if I hadn't already run into it once today.....though I do appreciate the *cough* delicacy of Methodshop's page:I hope the toilet was full of clean water...However, you may need to replace a few parts inside depending on what exactly happened...Please warn them it fell into the toilet before they crack open your iPod and find a dingle-berry inside.
Very current page updating, too, you've already got Agreenster quoted from this thread.

Well talking about happenings to ipods.
I have a good one.
I do have the Contour ShowCase Case for my iPod.
I was running across the road.. (J Walking)
Where my iPod slipped of my Belt. Dropped to the ground at this point you will be thinking crap right. it gets worse the iPod in the case went on to slide across the road and got ran over by a bus.
I was just about in tears afterall I have only had the ipod for 2 days.
But here is the good news. it still worked. no damaged to the ipod still plays fine the case just got a few scratchs, but hey thats better than the iPod aye..
Please note I do not recommend that you try this at home...

and I was just waiting for the next bus to come by my house...
p.s. that animation of the iPod going into the toilet was great, the one bounce before going in is classic....just CHANGE THE TOILET PICTURE.

i was jammin wit my ipod on the freeway and had my window open and then all of a sudden a strong wind came through and blew my ipod out of my hand and out my cars window. all that was left was my headphones in my ear. in a furry i stoped my car and pulled over and witness my ipod get smashed, beat up, and tainted on the freeway. as i got back into my car, part of the chrome backing blew into my shoe reminding me of what just happend...

well i'm a bit guilty i went canoeing with my school in a canal (in london) and i got in and paddled around for a while splashed a few people poked some dead pigeons standard schoolboy antics (i was 13 at the time) and then it hit me that i forgot to take my ipod out of my pocket (1st gen 5GB one) so i slowly paddled to the side to get out when some idiot in my class decided to ram me i capsised and went all the way round pushing myself up again with my paddle my ipod was a little wet and did not turn on so i poped it open with my pen knife and unpluged the battery took it home and left it to dry for 3 days put it all together and it worked.
