So far I've got on my 3GS:

SBSettings
Five Icon Dock
Winterboard

.....all working.

what are some others I should get? What app is the best for modding SMS backgrounds and bubbles?

Catagories and Stacks are useful if you know what youre doing :)

also look into spot bright on cydia

on a side note...how did you get winterboard working!?! I install it but the icon doesn't show up on spring board :(

If I could have only one app on a JB iPhone it would be Backgrounder.

With it I can run Slacker, Pandora, etc and still be able to surf the web, check email or text. It alone is the reason I jailbroke again.

I jailbroke yesterday and am having a hard time finding reasons to justify it. I've got SBSettings and iRealQuickSMS and am so far happy with them. Visually I can't find anything appealing. Any of the themes I used before are lacking in the icon department and have most likely been abandoned by the developer.

Is there any good, clean themes that are compatible with 3.0 (themes messages)?

Make sure that SBSettings hasn't disabled your winterboard icon and hidden it.

Wait.....so a lot of themes won't work in 3.0?!? Seriously?

Also whats the best SMS Background Bubble App?

+1.

The themes I tried missed all the apps I already had from the app store. Kinda pointless to have glass orbs theme when half of your apps are normal looking.

Thinking of restoring and re-breaking when developers start to pick up on 3.0.

I was considering jailbreaking my phone but frankly, aside from making some minor cosmetic changes, what's the point? I guess it's the thrill of the hunt that gets people all worked up about doing this.

It serves the same purpose as Mobile Installer for 2.2.1.

Use with installous (and Safari DL plugin)! The installous app will let you browse/download/install ipa files. I'm not saying I condone any of this particular kind of behavior....

Hah. Winterboard just messed up my 3GS. I had to install it to use weathericon, and just uninstalled it, and then uninstalled Winterboard. It wanted to reboot, and then loads the Apple logo and shuts off. No amount of resets fixes it. Time for the restore!

just install the sources that you need.. thats my opinion. if you want to find what source you need, just try to good the package name and add source at the end and youll find it. good luck.

What do you use as a LOUD email notification? I have the AOL sound of "you've got mail". It's a beating but it sure beats the default sound.

OpenSSH
Appsync (;), I'm cheap, lol)
Status Notifier
BiteSMS (It replaces the default SMS program. Check it out. Its not free, tho)

MyWi is one of my newest must-haves. Of course, you have to install RockYourPhone, but it's worth it in my opinion.

MyWi allows you to turn your iPhone into a WiFi hotspot, so you can connect other devices to it and share your internet connection with them. So an iPod touch can select your iPhone from the list of WiFi hotspots available and use the internet. I tried it today with my friend's iPod Touch and it works.

So cool.

Oh, and I forgot another for me. GriP, which is Growl for iPhone.
GriP's been updated to replace the Push Notification pop up, so you don't get such an obtrusive pop up. It appears in the corner as a translucent pop up, and you can read it, and after a while it'll disappear. You can also tap it and it'll take you to the app that sent the notification. Way better than Apple's way of doing it.

I'm surprised more people aren't saying OpenSSH. I couldn't even consider getting an iPhone if OpenSSH weren't available for it.

I tried to help a friend install it on his unlocked 2G 3.0 Iphone and it completely locked up his phone. Just stuck on the pineapple screen. I had to do a complete restore and re-unlock it.

I'm a little nervous to try it on my 3GS but it seems like some aren't have any problems with it.

I don't think SB settings affects performance too much. Winterboard slows things down though.

If you search for "mail motherf*cker" I use the BEEP BEEP from that sound, I can't use the rest since I'm in a professional environment. It's really loud that I have no issues hearing it even on the bus.

I use the Glass Orb theme from ToyVan. Last I checked he has over 1,100+ icons which is a pretty good amount. He just updated to 3.0 compatable too. check it out.

So, being the good non-early-adopter that I am, I just upgraded to 3.0 jb'd. I'm having some issues getting winterboard to work though. I generally just use the apple icon's w/ my own background.

Ive reinstalled winterboard a few times, rebooted, and tried all the usual fixed. Does anyone have the magic bullet for getting winterboard working w/ 3.0?

Thanks,
Arisian

Ah, I installed StatusNotifier. and it works. But trying to open the settings it just crashes. But the missed call and email shows up. But I think there are settings for the lock screen. I just liked the icons better for this one. I'll give Notifier a try though.

Having the notification on the lock screen is one of my main reasons for JB.

If I miss a call the phone one is red but the message and mail icon appear blue. May be the theme I'm using but if you miss a call it is definitely red.

Previously Backgrounder had some other extra functions to it that it could do. Currently though with 3.0, it only works for running things in the Background, which is all I used it for anyways so I don't really care.

I read the comments on Cydia for Backgrounder and decided to give them a little more time to smooth out some of the bugs. Right now all I have running is:

SbSettings
PdaNet
CyDelete
att Carrier Logo
Weather Icon

Really waiting for this weeks update to VoiPover3G, the real reason I did the jb on my 3G and now my 3G S.

No themes or nothing. Just a few functionality things.

Grip also looks interesting once they get the bugs all sorted out and add the ability to see your push log externally. Grip is basically a push notification manager, for those that hate the huge blue box the iPhone currently does but doesn't want to disable visual notification.

Themes will never be up to date on Cydia, they are only a starting point. Go to MacThemes (http://macthemes2.net/forum/viewforum.php?id=24) and manually add/update them.

If you are that upset with the jailbreak erase and go vanilla, backgrounder and sbsettings would be enough for me to NEVER go back, not to mention installous, winterboard, inavsterlingsilver, cydia i mean the list goes on and on and on, if you dont wat a cutomizable iphone that is actually differnet and usefull stay vanilla, i will never go back...ha ...haha....hahahahha!!!

And if your worried about the icons for thems... go with something like the inavsterling or a folder theme... then you can use regular icons have a amazing interface and you just have folders instead of icons....
