apple insider has sent a cease and decist leter from apple proving that the photos were real

It does not prove anything.
Apple has sent cease and desist letters before regarding products that were later proven to be fake.

It seems they removed the image in advance of a possible C&D. It seems there wasn't actually a C&D issued.

Can you mention any off hand from the last few years (or point to a website)? I am curious to know what they have previously C&D'ed and why?
