New mac convert, I have had my iMac aluminum keyboard for 3 months and the keys are getting a tiny bit grubby. I am thinking I can turn off, unplug, spray a mild cleaner on a soft cloth and clean it up, but I cannot find a single source anywhere on the web that confirms this is ok. Is there any reason I can't do this?

I would just use water and cleaning cloth

A slightly damp cloth is your friend :)

I've also heard a bit of rubbing alcohol also helps clean up.

Thanks, water worked ok. There's a few keys I will try rubbing alcohol on.

Cotton swabs (I use Q-Tips) work quite well for getting into those smaller areas. For even smaller areas go your local model shop and pick up some Micro Brushes they are awesome for that job.

In the US you can buy a box of alcohol swabs for ~$0.99. The same ones used on you when you get an injection or IV at a medical facility. These work great to clean keyboards and mice.

Wow - Q-Tips? That's cool but I have other things to clean today... lol J/K that's good detailing.
Personally, I use a baby wipe. They're perfect. Mildly cleansing, damp but not saturated and I always have them. (FYI - you don't need a baby to buy them).
Seriously, aside from displays they work great for most of my computer cleaning needs.

If your keyboard is really dirty enough to warrant cleaning beyond just unleashing a can of compressed air and a wipe down with a moist cloth, I think it is time to get a new one.

Baby wipes will get blood out of concrete. Good stuff.

The alum boards are cake to clean. Just take a paper towel and some isopropyl (rubbing alcohol) and wipe it all down.

Much better than removing every key like the crumb-catcher white boards they used to ship.

Wow - I don't even want to know how you figured that out. I'll definitely have to try it though. Anyone want to volunteer?

yep, these things stay pretty clean.. ESPECIALLY compared to the old pro keyboards... those things were a pain
