View Full Version : Got Win7 running on a separate drive... can I load that in a VM?

So I have Win7 installed on it's own drive in my Mac Pro (MBR/NTFS formatted disk).

Is there some way to load that in a VM in OSX, or do I need to install another instance of Win7 in my VM software of choice?

If a VM can recognize and load my existing install... what VM software supports this and is there any trick to get it to work?

Thanks!

VMWare Fusion does this as does Parallels I believe. Runs a bootcamp install of Windows as a VM without having to create a whole new virtual machine from scratch.

Thanks... I didn't realize that. :)

I ran a 7 Virtual in Parallels for about 2 weeks - it works fine.

Just start up fusion and it should automatically detect the bootcamp partition if it is mounted and bring you through the steps of setting it up.
