Hi there,
I thought MobileMe and its Gallery would be a great way for clients to screen videos I'm doing for them, or ones I've done for others. But in every case so far, after I send a "Tell a Friend" link, I get a message like this back:

"I wasn't able to view the video... I tried to download it but once the download was complete I couldn't open the file"

What am I, or what are they, missing? Is it that they're using PCs, and not Macs?
Here's how confused I am. I actually don't want them have to download the file. I'd rather they just screen it on my MobileMe website. Surely in this case, it wouldn't matter if they're on a PC. All they need is a relatively fast internet connection, no? And yet no one seems to have been able to do this.

Any help/clarification would be appreciated.

Are they Quicktime videos? If so, they may not have Quicktime installed (the free player comes with iTunes as well). What exactly are you uploading there?

Hi Sonicjay,
thanks for the reply. Yes, I think they're QT... imported out of Avid as QT, then into iMovie (however iMovie likes to do it, which I'm sure is some flavour of QT) and then "shared" to my gallery.
My clients — or potential clients, or more likely UNLIKELY (since I'm a videographer who can't seem to show his videos) clients — can see other videos on the web, on YouTube and the likes. Why can't iDisk or MobileMe do the same. YouTube never tells people they can't screen a video, does it?
I appreciate the help,
malch

They must not have QuickTime installed. It is needed for both Internet and download mov files (which is what MobileMe uses).

I've never been without QuickTime, so I didn't know that.
So... it seems to me that MobileMe's Gallery will be of limited use to me.
Is there some other way I could encode or include these things so everyone can see them?

Well, you can get the Flip4Mac plugin that will allow you to convert to Windows Media format, which is pretty ubiquitous; alternatively, you could encode them to flash if you have Flash Encoder or some other similar program. This won't use the Gallery feature, as it isn't compatible with iMovie, but you could encode the files, throw on your iDisk and send a link to them, if you're trying to only show the files to specific people for proofing, etc.

O.K., that sounds workable. I have Flip4Mac and Epsisode... so you're saying I can simply encode to wmv and/or flash, and put these files in my Public Folder, and send a link. Not quite as elegant as 'My Gallery', but sounds like it'll work.
Thanks very much.
