Technically no.. but if you log in once a day, it resets the timer. If you arent getting at least 1 message a day, why bother having it?

Beejive you can set the timeout up to 24 hours, I check to see who is on at least once a day, its replaced texting for most of my friends.

Well, I don't exactly know what you would define "indefinitely" to be, but IM+ and BeeJive work great with Push. However, BeeJive's $15 price tag is kind of repelling.

Its $9.99, and so is IM+, which is basically the samething...IM+ was just $4.99, but you missed the sale.

I don't really use IM, but I gave my old iphone to my daughter (5) and bought my other daughter (3) an Ipod touch.

Since they aren't on phone plans, I can't send them SMS, but would like to shoot them an IM every once in a while. Due to their ages, this isn't something I would be doing daily, but maybe once a week, hence the need for one that lets you stay on. I don't want to go on to their phone/touch daily.

IM+ is the longest at 3 days, nothing all the time...

Thanks. I don't understand why they have you log off after a certain time. There are other apps that leave you logged in.

Try TextFree .. it's similar to SMS, i.e. there is no "signing on/off" process. So you're always "on". Supports Push Notifications too.

My favorites:

Beejive (9.99 dollars)
is really cool. you can customize almost everything, which is a + for the kids. You can be connected for 24 hours, but if you open the app or something, the time starts again. So, is basically always "on". I think, not sure, that you can text directly from the app even on iPods.

AIM (FREE and 2.99 dollars version),
there's two versions.
The free version, is a really simple app, so can chat and text each other, even on their iPods. The free version comes with Push. Paid version is almost exactly as the free version but without ads. You can be connected for 24 hours too.
