So what, it was for the safety of our nation.

Just because you don't want some FBI Agents to know that you're downloading porn, you go and make a huge deal about it?
(By You, I meant the human population)

I don't think it goes far enough. I think the FBI should be able to enter your house without a warrant while you're at work to make sure you're not building any bombs. If you have nothing to hide, what do you have to fear? The feds finding your Playboy collection?

Let's see who takes the bait....

Psh! You bleedin' heart liberal, you. They should be able to whisk you and your family off for an extended stay at Guantanamo, via Egypt or Pakistan for some 'encouragement', all in the name of freedom and liberty. Just to be safe.

Yes, you took his bait. :p

It is difficult to tell though isn't it? cause we have had so many people who are seriously saying that all this is OK.

Without oversight, how do we know that? Especially since all evidence has been to the contrary. See the liberal churches and political groups who were spied upon in the name of your safety, and the complaints from the FBI that they wasted their time on what actually turned out to be a lot of nothing. Nice to know while our troops are out there giving their lives for freedom (or so the meme goes), you are more than willing to give up the freedom of others for the perception of your safety. Completely against everything this country was founded on.

How noble of you.

I was under the impression that secret ease dropping was happening since the 50's. Do we honestly believe that it started with Bush?

What I've never understood is the fact that it's dead easy to get a warrant. They are expedited to begin with when dealing with national security...

Most of the time with warrants, that yes, if we're talking about FISA (redone in response to Nixon I believe) are both secret and extremely easy to get. You don't even need that good of a reason, you just need any old reason at all. Even after the fact, up to around 72 hours (more with an extension if you need to keep going). Certain Congressmen and others with high security clearance are occasionally briefed. The fact that we used to do it worse doesn't make it better, nor does the fact that it is so easy to do so secretly for almost any reason, again even afterwards, yet the Bush administration still didn't because... his judge said they didn't have to.

Pardon me if that doesn't seem like a good reason.

No, but we cannot justify bad behavior by pointing to other bad behavior that happened in the past. This is not acceptable.
