Chewing doesn't bother me but the sound of people swallowing makes me want to punch them in the face. It bothers me most when they do it needless loud or on the phone to me.

My roommate has no concept of eating quietly. He smacks his lips and swallows so loudly I'm beginning to think it's on purpose.

LOL that made me laugh. I don't know about chewing, it makes me also, want to punch people in the face. It's the worst when my mum chews coz she tries to be silent about it, but it's just annoying!!

Wow. I don't think I ever even noticed the sound of someone chewing. Perhaps you should turn on some background music or something to cover up the sound.

Agreed, but it's not nearly as bad as when someone's stuffing their face while using the letter "P" alot.

My jaw pops every time I chew. It's nothing I can stop, so my girlfriend just has to put up with it (even though it drives her nuts).

I have to turn up the TV or music to be able to eat in the same room with Chris because he swallows so loudly. I wonder if punching him would fix it? :o

Yeah can be annoying if it's loud. What makes me angry is when people chew/drink while talking on the phone, the amplification of this noise on the phone means I tell them every time that maybe we should continue speaking when they are not eating/drinking.

Having partial hearing lost is a blessing sometimes because I don't hear these sounds if I'm not paying attention. People say men have selective hearing, but mine really is selective. If I am not paying attention to whatever is making noise, I can't really hear it.

the worst is slurping food.

I hear SLURP, SLURRRRRRRRRP, GULP!

The only sound that bugs me more is the sound of a vacuum cleaner.

Dude, try having a headmaster that does that whilst speaking over the tanoy system in the school. It's hideous!

What's your number, I've got something I need you to listen to.:)

The best way to get around the noises that bother you is to make as many noises possible that bother the others involved.;)

I have a friend that chews loud and with her mouth open on purpose because she thinks it's considered "cool" to do that. She is sorely mistaken.

Normal chewing doesn't really bother me, but the absolute worst is when someone is eating ice. My wife does this and it drives me nuts. It's like there's a microphone in her mouth it's so loud.

For me it's not just the inability to shut one's mouth while eating, but people whose instruction in proper table manners was completely neglected. Case in point - a few weeks back I'm in an IHOP with some people I know, one of whom orders a steak. At some point during the meal, he abandoned his silverware, picked up the half eaten piece of meat and started gnawing on the bone. If you want to conduct yourself like an animal in your own home that's one thing, but in public and with others present you should show a minimum of respect for the people around you.

I possess the gift (curse?) of exceptional hearing. Needless to say, I cannot stand the ungodly noises of chewing, crunching, swallowing, slurping, or whatever other unpleasant noises may result from eating or drinking, which are painfully noticeable in all but the loudest restaurants. :o

Ew yuck, that sucks especially if you wanted some alone time.

My dad always has nothing to say until he's got some food in his mouth, then he can't stop talking! I think about 80% of thetime I see him talk is when he's got his mouth full.

Smacking of the lips annoys me. And the sound of a knife scraping on the plate when cutting food gives me the creeps.

Kissing noises aren't as bad as chewing noises, but they're still pretty gross.

I don't mind it, at least it doesn't drive me bonkers - UNLESS (big unless) they make noise needlessly or chew with their mouth open.

I mean, we all make some sound when we chew, and if you stop and notice how much you can hear your own chewing it's even louder. Peeps that chew w their mouth open bug the heck of me. 'Specially when they talk at the same time. Projectiles yuk.

...and hey, it could be worse (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w1T3yrWQfSo).

Kissing noises aren't as bad as chewing noises, but they're still pretty gross.I'll see those kissing scenes in movies, and it's all *smack smack* *slurp slobber* smack slobber* *snort smack* and it's like 'sexy'? Noooooo way.

Guess you've never eaten a chicken leg or ribs nor been to a restaurant where people do so.:D

I understand what you are saying though, wrong cut of meat to eat in such a manner. Though I am guilty of this at home, just seems like a waste of perfectly good meat otherwise.

For me it's like really loud chewing, like eating noisily in a smacking manner or something. When I'm out, for example public places, I'm okay with it (chewing) because there's also other voices and noise. It's just when chewing is the only noise I'm hearing and then I just start to listen to it.

Loud chewing. If it's quiet, I couldn't care less. But when it's loud it just seems that people are chewing like that on purpose. Or when you know someone is trying to make an effort to keep it down, but it just ends up weird and loud still!

I don't mind it. Or it doesn't really register when I hear it. I'm sure if someone stuck headphones on me with chewing sounds on loop I'd grow to hate it. But for now it just doesn't bother me at all.

I love that big scrrawwwnch noise that some crisps do. They always play that sound on adverts but its fairly hard to do. I pulled it off once years back :o.

If the sound/thought of people chewing upset me as much as some of the posters here I'd have a hard time getting out…

Is it the actual sounds or just the idea of the food being masticated, chompingly being turned into a ball of saliva-slimy gunk, ready to slide down the gullet of someone you may be having other issues with (Example: a mother?) which makes you run from the room? ;)

Ive never noticed the sound of food being chewed. The only time was with my cousin and my moms friend, both of whom chew with their mouths open. Aside from that, it doesnt bother me. A lot of people wouldnt like to come to certain places here in Europe then, where people eat with their hands, pick off of each others plate, and just dont care about proper etiquette.

I think this is being a little obsessive. People need to eat so its hard to avoid hearing people chew. The only time I'm annoyed by someone else eating is if they are being particularly messy about it. Such as food falling out of their mouths when eating and talking--and then hitting my food. I'm surprised breathing doesn't bother some of you guys.

There actually was a woman on the subway who started yelling at a guy because she could hear him breathing and wanted him to stop. She was pretty much laughed off the train. People are truly nuts sometimes.

The sound of the food slapping around in their mouths combined with the heavy breathing people get and the Grinding noises. Ew.

My older brother is a kind of mentally challenge... well, he is normal but sort of an idiot. And he is so noisy and when he is eating I do not know how he makes so much noise out of everything, dishes, chewing, swaloing and so on.

He got marry and his wife eat well but is even noisier than him, that sort of people that has a loud voice and everything is loud that even my brother tells her to keep it quiet.

But the noisiest and disgusting people ever was when I was an exchange student in arkansas. The entire town was horrible at the table, even the cheerleaders eat like pigs. No wonder all the exchange students ended up together.
